Which cards do you think will experience an increase in popularity/price next year and why?
I was thinking about this the other night. With selling off a bunch of my golf card collection, and my son getting into collecting a bit (albeit more LEGO's at this stage than sportscards) I was thinking about what my be some good buy and hold items for the future.
Here are a few of my thoughts:
2012 Football Rookies - Seems to me with this being discussed as the best QB class since 1984 - and many are having good if not great years. I don't collect much in terms of the modern stuff, but might try to sock away some unopened higher end product for my son who is just getting into collecting. This seems like as good of year for something to hold value in terms of football. Might just wait for SP Authentic to come out in January
Peyton Manning - The "Sherrif" has always been one of my favorite of all time. I am NOT a Broncos fan, but would love to see this guy win another title. Might try to pick up a couple of RC's for jr of him as well.
Kaepernick - Could be a poor man's RG III? I saw this guy play here in Lincoln as a true Freshman (RG III played in Lincoln as well) was impressed then, and still impressed now) Appears he is now the guy in Frisco, and the niners look to be hanging around and being decent a least for a few years.
Late 1970's Baseball sealed packs - These seem like a decent buy and take me back to the beginnings of my collecting days. Of course that is now over 30 years ago as well...so that would be compared to me grabbing 1958 Topps cards when I started collecting...damn...if I had only done that then.
As far as vintage goes, I think that some of the 50-51-52 Bowman Baseball issues are still a good buy especially for the raw collectors out there. You can get some decent even mid grade 50's baseball (topps or Bowman) and I think the market for the mid grade stuff is definately a buyers market right now.
Just my thoughts, would love to hear other insights....

<< <i>Without creating a new thread, what years do you consider Vintage? Even though 1988 is 25 years old, I would hardly call it vintage. And 1985, despite being a great set, and is 27 years old, again, I dont consider it vintage. Partially has to do with quantities. But what about 1980? I think Beckett and SCM say 1973 and before. Do you agree with this? >>
I'd say Pre 1980 for vintage.

I agree on Comics. They are now pretty mainstream. Hollywood loves comics. It is cool to like comics.
