<< <i>I read a lot of the threads over there to try to see how it all happened. The guy did such a great job of suckering people in by giving cards away (a lot of the cards he gave away were ones he had gotten in trades that he never reciprocated for) that when his scheme began to unravel and come to light there were tons of people jumping up and defending him.

I have to admit reading it reminded me of our "beloved" Felicia. image >>

Speaking of Felicia. Did it ever get determined if the large pack runs from 1972-197? that she sold off to board members, just before going on hiatus from the Board, were good or were they resealed?

It seems like he suckered in young adults or kids who were trying desperately to keep up with richer more "baller" collectors and way over extended themselves to do it. They thought they would be getting 2 to 3 times the value for their money. Learned a big leason there.
Currently completing the following registry sets: Cardinal HOF's, 1961 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1972 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1980 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, Bill Mazeroski Master & Basic Sets, Roberto Clemente Master & Basic Sets, Willie Stargell Master & Basic Sets and Terry Bradshaw Basic Set
  • Someone should tell these kids there's no such thing as a baller that collects baseball cards.

<< <i>I just read through a lot of that. Absolutely amazing. Particularly reading some of his very early threads where you have collectors bumping his threads to praise him and tell everyone what a special guy he is and a true blessing to the hobby. It looks like he even developed some friendships off the internet having phone conversations with many of those people. While it's easy to be a backseat driver and burn on everyone who sent him money, he did a great job of building trust, a good reputation, etc before going in for the kill.

That being said, it would seem a guy at that level that is that good at it, would do it all for more than 25K. That's basically about 8 months work of time consuming work he put into it, then to walk away with 20-25K seems a little anti climactic for a guy that seems like he's been doing it a while >>

This scammer being prolific at his "craft" may have several scams with different IDs and different venues going at the same time.

    That's true.

However, I am still stuck on Van Damme being in Breakin. I am totally pulling that one out next time I am out with the boys for a few drinks. I have a hunch I can craft that nugget into a free drink in a bet! To top the trivia question though we need to find some famous person who was obscurely in the Electric Boogaloo! image

<< <i>Wow, I had no idea Jean-Claude Van Damme was in Breakin'. Turbo and Ozone must be so proud. >>

I hate to admit it, but I saw that movie in the theater. Also saw Electric Boogaloo.

After those four National League games, Gorman Thomas was never the same, and neither were the Brewers, and come to think of it neither was I.

Hell yes you did, you also wore parachute pants and did many of spins on broken down cardboard boxes and all of that was okay. If you happened to be the kid that actually went and paid for break dancing lessons that's another story.

The people over at Blowout will probably find out Haiku's real name is Randall Stephens (see alias).

I've been out for a few weeks, the title of this thread is a little misleading. At first glance I thought the Blowout Cards was scamming people. I've read the forums over there and it is like a suckers paradise.

I'll politely disagree. When one of them shows up in one of your registry sets, you'll know.

LOL! I was thinking the same thing.... >>

Me too. When Felicia was giving stuff away here 4 or 5 years ago or whenever it was, its like she developed a "posse" of followers overnight. They'd go on and on and on about how wonderful Felicia was for mailing them some random card. And if anyone ever said anything negative about her, the posse would show up and trash the person.

I would never buy a "mystery" lot, but I would make a high dollar deal with many board members here based on my perception of them by reading here for years. I bet many of you would do the same. I wont make a list but think through who here you would easily be taken by. Scary.
