i recently bought an 1877-cc quarter and was wondering what the main die varieties were for the date! will load pictures shortly!

The 4 major varieties tracked by the LSCC census are:

small cc
large cc
1877/77-cc
1877/77/77-cc

The large CC's seem to be the most commonly seen.

I just held a quarter as shown between my index and ring finger and found it to be really uncomfortable

It's a large CC variety... Beyond that your images aren't sharp enough focus wise to see anything else

A 5X or 10X loupe applied to the date of that coin should quickly determine if there is any signs of doubling or tripling.

Briggs' obverse #1 & #2 for the date have the date doubling conspicuously evident as a North / South shift of the bottoms of the upright of both sevens. It should be evident without a loupe if it has the doubled date, even on a low grade coin.
Your coin appears to be Briggs 6-F. The date has a known total of 10 head dies and 10 tail dies.
