I know it's Canadian, but....................

I know it's Canadian, but I was perusing eBay and came across this listing which is perhaps the most honest description I can recall seeing-----ever. To be honest, I've seen uglier coins, they just weren't described in such a straightforward way.

Have you ever seen a more honest negative listing title??

Actually since the photo that pops up the search is a different more evenly toned coin than the large finger printed blotchy toned coin in the ad ,I'd say no not the most honest eBay listing

It's too bad the seller has the wrong image linked in the auction, too, as this might cause confusion.

About ten years ago I listed an NGC MS64 1953-S (?) Washington quarter on ebay and had the title something like "World's Ugliest Washington Quarter". In the description I went on to detail why I thought the coin so dreadful. Oddly enough, someone on the boards linked the auction and wrote that I was attempting to deceive folks since I wrote in the description that the coin had some purples in the toning and they could not see purples in the image. The coin sold for around $4 and I would have to check to confirm the details.

well, i'd say I have you on a technicality since I said "auction" listing, but you're right, two different pictures. i guess we get two choose between two equally ugly coins.image

A few points to make......(based on the second set of pics)

    1. granted, it is ugly.

    2. it's not original. It looks like an old dip that went bad.

    3. I can't give the seller that much credit for the 'honesty' as he's a US seller, selling a Canadian coin (no basis for pride and therefore easier to be 'honest').

Still, the listing is refreshing though and is a welcomed change.

I'm not sure I follow your last point. Are you saying that US collectors are more likely to disclose Canadian and foreign coinage as "ugly" because they are not "our" coins?

    Yes, to a small extent.

Just like a Canadian dealer may be able to knock a US coin or a German coin a little easier than a Canadian coin.

My basis for the statement was not to knock a US dealer, but just a general statement that I believe one has a little more pride in his or her own country's coinage.

The seller is a member here. I'll PM him and tell him the images are of two different coins. BTW, not a more honest seller will be found on eBay.

Oops, I will get the error with the photo corrcted tonight. I listed a number of NGC graded Canadian dollars one evening and failed to enter the correct url for the truly ugly canadian dollar for sale here.

I have updated the auction to show the correct coin in the eBay gallery view. Thank you all for bringing this error to my attention so that I could correct it before the coin sells to a buyer who might not realize that he/she would be getting the butt ugly example.
