another ebay situation

I sold a few hockey cards on ebay to a buyer in canada on 10/31 and were shipped 11/1. He sent me a message two weeks later asking if they were shipped. I haven't heard anything since and because the 45th day is approaching would you say im still responsible to refund or anything if he can't open a case against me?

I believe there's a USPS toll free number for tracking shipments like these
as long as you have a customs form with a tracking number on it.
Check with your local post office. It might be a direct number to
    the customs office.

He can open a case if you didnt provide a tracking #

And he will win. The customs slip doesn't track anything just confirms the originating area of the shipment. A customs office would never take a call about a USPS shipment, nor would you know what office handled it anyways.

Only way to ship risk-free from US to Canada is to use Registered which will cost you about $15 or so, and for that amount it is only worth it for cards over a certain sale price. Registered gets you tracking/delivery conf. + insurance, though the insurance only covers the first $48 no matter how much you have as the value of the item.

Packages sent regular first class almost always make it to their destination in Canada, but Canadian post is both slow and inconsistent. I've sent items to repeat buyers where one time it will take 5 or 6 days and the next time it takes 3.5 weeks, same weight and same recipient.
  • I also had a recent scenario where I had a buyer write to me telling me the same thing - that he hadn’t received anything either. This was 2 weeks after I delivered the item. I wrote back to him saying that it was sent out the day after his payment was made and that he should be getting it any day now and thanked him for his patience. He wrote back asking if I had a tracking number. I told him I didn’t and I usually don’t do that for small valued items ($11) but that when he received his package, he will see that it was postmarked the day after he made his payment to show that it wasn’t me but the post office. Sent first class btw. I didn’t hear anything back from him. Then a few days later I noticed he left me positive feedback that I was a great ebayer and such so it worked out fine.

I wouldn’t be too worried at this point. It sounds like he probably received them which is why 1 month later, he still hasn’t written back. I think it’s safe to assume you’re good. At my job, I’ve noticed a lot of people who have been mailing payments, that they are not showing up to my office in the same time that they have been in the past. Since Hurricane Sandy, there has been a huge increase in either payments getting lost or taking weeks to make it to us when it should only take 3 or no more than 4 days.

Registered doesn't technically qualify for Buyer/Seller protection, Express Mail International does... and it costs a lot more. Canada Post is not the problem, outbound mail sits in USPS distribution centers for what can be weeks. Just follow the tracking, once an item is in Canada it typically takes a few days to be delivered anywhere.

I would agree with Littleweed - he probably already got the cards long ago. I've had thi happen a number of times with Caanadian orders.

I recently sen an item to Brazil. The buyer sent me a message about 27 days after I sent the item saying he hasn't received it. I told him to wait until the 30th day and then let me know if he still hasn't received it. He asked for a tracking number and I explained about the customs number but no actual DC. Two or three days later he received the item and left me positive feedback.
  • Thanks for the responses. Actually maybe I was luckly but I had a buyer in New Zealand opened a case against me and I put the customs number to ebay and they refunded the buyer without any penalty or money taken out of my pp account.
