Sportscaster Card-1976 USA Olympic Basketball

Need some help from anyone who can identify the 2 US players on 1977-79 Sportscaster Card #09-16. It is a picture from the US versus USSR Olympic game.

Here is one on eBay that shows US players wearing jerseys #7 and #13.

I have been searching the web trying to find a site that would list the team by jersey numbers, and it is driving me crazy that I can't find the info (usually I am very adept at finding any trivia bit of info using internet).

If anyone has an old program from the 1976 Olympic Basketball action, or is just a knowledgeable and helpful person, and can identify the players, I will be grateful.

If anyone can answer, I would be willing to bet it will be someone from this board. Thanks,

James

I think 13 is Mitch Kupchak. Right era and team. #7 May be Phil Ford. Not sure though. Can't see his face.

Thanks Vito--I originally thought #7 might be Ford, but after finding some other photos of Ford at that Olympics, I think he was wearing #3, and his hair was not cut as short as the player wearing #7.

  • I believe Phil Ford wore #4 in 1976. #7 is either Walter Davis (UNC) or Steven Sheppard (Maryland). #13 looks like Tom LaGarde (UNC). Kupchak had sort of curly hair in '76, #13 doesn't. All just speculation though.

    DING< DING< DING....Winner!

I finally found a website that lists the 1976 Team with Jersey Numbers--and Mark was spot-on with his guesses.

    #7 is Walter Davis
    #13 is Tom LaGarde

Thanks to both of you for providing input!image
