1972 Rack

Edit. Changed it to a pack thread. First I was asking how old al rosen was doing.
What are your thoughts on this rack? I dont know racks that well but this one looks odd to me.

My thoughts are it looks like someone placed it in the oven on broil to give it the old warped look. Which gave the front those wierd waves but the back didnt get any.
Thoughts? Is it legit? 2nd series is one that would be last to do but why not.

It's an odd surface. I also don't like the fold lines (or lack thereof) on the '72 cello.

Coincidentally, BBCE had one up last month with exactly the same problem. Before that, I had never seen this phenomenon.

Its very strange. I dont know what could make them look like that but the back with the same age and enviornment that it comes out smooth but the front is wrinkled to heck. Not sure what could cause this?

That looks to me like somehow the cello was shrunk with too much heat. Can that happen AFTER manufacture if the rack is exposed to excessive heat?

OK I think the best thing would be to open it to see if it was tampered with. I will volenteer to do that. Since this will benefit everyone on this board and the results posted, I will need about 50 of us to pitch in about $10.00 each so I can make the purchase. I will do the rip and post the results.......................sounds like a great idea to me. image

  • It looks like the plastic might have gone through changing temperatures of hot and cold in someones cellar at some point. Maybe expanding and contracting the plastic? Not sure if this would also affect the cards as well. I suppose it would to some degree, but the cards seem unaffected. It is a strange look and the prices are way to high. They should just be opened and save them from that plastic.
