Trout, Pujols, Hamilton! Niice

Stupid Rangers!!!
Hamilton will not do well in the Hollywood lights and look how close to Vegas he'll be....who knows if he's going to stray back to his old habits.
So now we have Wells on the bench, Trout, Trumbo, Hamilton, and Bourjos in the outfield. This isn't softball, Arte.
Honestly, I would have rather had Torii Hunter if they were going to sign an outfielder.
Perhaps Arte got him to get Pujols some better balls to hit...and who knows how long Pujols will be Pujols. Trumbo could take over first at some point.

I'd drink to that!!!
<< <i>I wouldn't blink too long or you'll miss Trumbo heading out of LA imo. Think this is setting that stage. Maybe trade him for a starting pitcher... >>
Angels have said they are keeping Trumbo (on Twitter). Read more at Link
I watched a news update from a beat writer that 2013 will be the chance for a "Young" outfield. That was published on 12/11/12 (reference: Link). Two days later, Peter Bourjos could be on the block in the anticipation of Hamilton starting and Trout full time in center.
Peter Bourjos, Vernon Wells, Hank Conger, and possibly Garrett Richards should be leveraged to get some starting pitching now...though I do not like Peter Bourjos going anywhere - that kid is amazing in center field. Not much of a hitter, though.

I was thinking the same thing.
The Angels haven’t confirmed the signing, instead releasing the following statement:
"As per team policy and MLB rules, the Angels will not comment on the status of any contract negotiations with players. With that said, we continue to look for ways to improve our team. As soon as we have something formal to announce, we will do so."
After striking big in the free-agent market last offseason with first baseman Albert Pujols and lefthander C.J. Wilson but still missing the postseason, the Angels weren’t expected to be big spenders this time around. But their strikes for Pujols and Wilson were surprising as well.
Hamilton, 31, has spent the past five seasons with Texas, winning the AL MVP Award in 2010 and being named to five consecutive All-Star teams. Injuries have been a problem during that span, but Hamilton played in 148 games this past season. He hit .285/.354/.577 with 43 homers and 128 RBIs.

You just got a legit MVP candidate in his prime and you don't like it. While I agree you now have a crowded OF depth is a great thing to have.

Tell me about it! He should walk in my shoes for a day, where signing Rusell Martin is a huuugggeee deal.

Hamilton's a great player, great hitter, and yes MVP caliber. Despite all of that, I still believe he's a risky sign. It may be unfair of me to bring up his problems (mental and physical), but they do exist and must be considered when signing, especially for 25 million a season. To top it off, it's probably not exactly what we need the most. The bullpen has been made a bit more steadfast this offseason, but I believe starting pitching is something we're lacking right now. We have some great hitters when they hit. Josh is no exception to that rule; he can add great offensive advantage - when he hits.
Now that I think about it, this may have been Arte's best move after Greinke was claimed by the Dodgers. They let Hunter walk (he may be aging, but he's a great club house guy and number 2 hitter), when they probably could have had him for <10 million a season. When Grienke was no longer available, they grabbed Hamilton. This does allow for some bargaining chips to fill our real holes, 3 and 4 in the rotation (and possibly 3rd base). I will still hold to Hamilton being a risky acquisition; only time will tell.
With the loss of Young, Hamilton, and Napoli, I'll be interested in seeing how well the Rangers will do next season.

I'm very happy living 15 miles from Angel stadium.
I think the Angels could trade off Kendrys and put Trumbo as a rotating 1st basemen/outfielder.

I think he knew that the Rangers were not going to keep him. HOWEVER, that does not mean he's not upset about.
BUT, if ND wins their next game, he's not going to care! LOL

Hasta la vista Josh. Glad to see him gone from Texas. A prodigious talent, BUT a quitter and a nutcase in my book. Good luck with him Anaheim, LOL. Hambone has to have another grown man to watch him, keep him out of trouble, point him in the right direction and he still creates issues. The Rangers will do just fine without him
Oh, and GO IRISH!!!!!
<< <i>Awesome lineup......on a different note....I still don't think that was a clip on Rocket Ismail's punt return for a touchdown. >>
Yeah, it could have gone either way I think. The kid that got called for it, Greg Davis, seemed to be a good friendly guy off the field. I think that was my sophomore year and I remember none of us (at least the kids in my section) being upset with Greg for that play. I think he had his head in front of the guy he supposedly "clipped" but that's the way the ball bounces sometimes, If the play had been allowed to stand, Rocket would have been a college football legend!

All the Hamilton bashing is just insane. Rangers fan should be thankful for all the good seasons he had instead of tearing him down.

That said, I don't think the Rangers should've given him 5 and 125. I think the most likely scenario is Hamilton blows up the first couple years of the deal, then slides dramatically. He'll be eager to prove himself to his new team (he's a pleaser, and will be motivated), then he'll get hurt, production will drop, and issues will appear. If the Angels win a WS in the next year or 2 I suppose it'll be worth it.......because the back end of that contract probably won't look so good.
No question he's a headcase but if Nelson Cruz could've caught a fly ball, Hamilton's HR would've won the Rangers a championship. Cruz is still around, btw.

so, presumably they're transitioning that chore to Albert.
no pressure on Hamilton, then. they just want him to go hit the crap outta the ball and leave the rest of it behind.
there will be no one to pitch around in that lineup, but for a lack of their own pitching they may be involved in a bunch of good ol' American League slugfests.
Hamilton has a past, that will be endind his career early. I can see him getting injured and missing many games. Besides he's in L.A., can we say party?

Let's be real, he wasn't playing for Rangers fans, he was playing for himself. That's fine and dandy but we dont owe him any more allegiance then he showed the Rangers. I will miss the stats he put up, and I appreciate the playoff runs he was a part of, but for most of his 3 post season runs, he was non existent and that's unacceptable for a player of his talent level. A lot of that was Ron Washington's fault for continuing to have faith in him and a pure reluctance to put his diva rear on the bench when he was "hurt", but Josh should have been man enough to indicate that he couldn't perform at acceptable levels.
I spend a TON of time around the Rangers and their facilities, and I will NOT miss the following at all (it's not sour grapes that some are insinuating, it's simply stuff that fans have put up with and tolerated that gets very old fast when's not performing at expected levels)
I won't miss him snapping at my kids and me for having the audacity to say hi when we are at the park. I won't miss his snapping at others I've witnessed in the same way. I won't miss him yelling at everyone asking for an autograph at appropriate times and then seeing time and time again a good looking lady ask and he falls over himself to get there for her. I won't miss hearing his excuses for poor performance rather then just manning up and saying he had a bad game or is not performing well. I won't miss him blaming his coaches and manager for not using him properly. I won't miss seeing him be nice when the camera is rolling but seeing him snap at people as soon as the light goes off. I won't miss groaning every single time he comes up to bat when he's in one of his funks. I won't miss watching him wear his Christianity on his chest while at the same time being very condescending to everyone around. When the baseball is good, everyone looks the other way, but when the baseball is bad, you need to be a good citizen, or at the very least, not a tool, or you will be vilified at the first chance and deservedly so. I've been around a ton of Rangers and none of them over the years ever treat the fans as bad as I've personally witnessed Josh treat them. His act had grown tiresome down here. It was TIME for him to go, and I know most of the fans that I hang out with, that spend a ton of time at the park and a ton of money on that, are not gonna miss him very much. Would rather see a young, appreciative player with far less talent giving his all.

Angels sacrificed short term gains for long term problems. In 3-4 years the Angels will have $90 million tied up in Hamilton, Pujols, Weaver, and Wilson. Oh and 3 of those guys will be on the wrong side of 35. They hid the problem in the past with Gary Matthews, Jr. and now Vernon Wells, I don't know if they'll be able to hide 3, maybe 4 guys, or outspend their mistakes. That's great if they win the World Series in the next couple of years, but the baseball playoffs are a crapshoot. All you need to do is be good enough to make the tournament. The regular season matters only in the since you need to win your division or be one of the best 2 second place teams, after that, anyone's game....see 2012 Giants, see 2011 Cardinals, see 2010 Giants, the list goes on and on. Heck the Tigers had the worst record of the all the AL playoff participants and look who won the pennant.
The Angels also have starting pitching problems. Weaver is great - a true ace, CJ's a 3 or a poor man's 2, and after him there isn't much. Give me Yu Darvish, Matt Harrison, Derek Holland, Alexi Ogando, and Martin Perez/Robbie Ross/Random 5th starter over the Angels rotation (and the A's for that matter too). Also don't underrate defense...the left side of the Rangers defense is the best in baseball. Also Kinsler a top 5 2B is most likely moving to 1B so Elvis Andrus 2.0, aka Jurikson Profar can play 2nd next year. Nothing is getting through that infield. That makes your pitchers better. Leonys Martin/Craig Gentry are better OFs than Josh is too. The Rangers will do just fine next year 85-92 wins next year. And that should be enough to get them in the tournament.
I will miss Josh. While he was a major reason of the final 3 months of the season took us from an all time elite team destined to win it all (go back there are tons of comparisons by national writers to the late 90s Yankees around May, June) to a tired bunch limping into the wild card game, I'm not going to forget he was a major reason the Rangers turned around in 2009. A major reason we won the AL in 2010. In 2011 when we blew the lead in the bottom of the 9th in game 6, he hits a go ahead home run in the 11th with a torn hernia...freaking legendary. That should have been the story book moment... I'll miss you Josh. Thanks for your years and your service I'll always have fond memories. But at 5/$125 I think its time we both moved on.

I believe everything you said as I have read your post about getting autographs with your daughter at Rangers games. I really enjoy reading about which autographs you and your daughter received at a particular game - being able to experience that with your son or daughter is what it's all about. I have two young boys and they love to get autographs at games as well. The thing I find incredible is I have been very active collecting autographs for over 35 years and in all my years of collecting autographs Josh is in the top two along with Harmon Killebrew of coolest players I have ever interacted with. My family and I have met him at least 10 different times probably closer to 15 and he has never turned us down for an autograph. We go to games at Target Field. Last year we drove down to Kansas City to watch the Rangers play in KC and Josh was the same way. He came over when he got off the team bus rubbed my youngest boys head and signed a baseball for him. While every other player went straight into the stadium, Josh must have signed for 15 minutes. Inside the stadium he signed down the left field line for another 10-15 minutes. I know for a fact I have not seen a current player sign more the last 5 years than Josh. I just think it's interesting that Josh would treat his local fans so poorly when every time I have seen him he has treated his fans in other cities so well.
