I hate to call attention to a niche I inhabit but..

anyone else notice a surge in prices in nice-surfaced counterstamped/countermarked coinage (like, official govt CS stuff)...

seems like any nice examples of chopped or re-denominationalized (is that a word) internationally circulating issues are going fairly strong on the 'bay.

interesting.

I don't want to call explicit attention to what I search for, just in general image

this went in the 90s. typically on ebay it might have been a 40-50 item?

Looks like even on auction sites nice examples go for 100-160? (I know this isn't "nice" but the surfaces are better than strip-cleaned)

FWIW I've noticed the same up-tick in 18th century chop-marked 8R with nice surfaces. Until recently they went for between $35 to $50, now it's $65 to $85. I can't see the rise in silver prices being to blame.

yep, exact increment I'm talking about. my phil peso probably cost 35 on ebay when I first got it. Im sure I could net more than that now, even with the cleaning.

    nothing earthshattering, just.. interesting.

This is a phrase you most often hear at the high end and not down here, but "maybe there are a few new players in the market".

This thread just makes me further appreciate this hobby. Niches are what makes this a hobby for kings and 5 year old kids alike........there is something to be offered for all ages, budgets, and interests. Fascinating niche by the way

I too like these, I dont seek them out however. When I do get them (melt) I keep em till I find someone who does appreciate these neat pieces.
