Leaf is both more aesthetically pleasing and more valuable. But, as already mentioned, those cards were issued in 1949, not 1948. Thus if you want a true mainstream Musial rookie, Bowman is your only choice.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
Is the Bond Bread a hand-cut card, or were they issued with both round and square corners?

In general, I prefer the 48 Leaf set by far over Bowman. However, the Musial photo on the Bowman card is such a classic- I'd prefer that over the Leaf Musial.

His rookie card is actually the 1946 Propagandas Montiel.

<< <i>I personally like the 1947 Bond Bread Musial. It's a year earlier than the 1948 Bowman.
I consider that card his true rookie.

They were issued with round corners. Square corners are from a later set and/or fakes.
FKW has a good write up about these on his site.
