There are always some great coins from the JHF sets over on Teletrade including SLQ's, Liberty Nickels, seated coins, etc. I mentioned on another thread this week that an 1899 Liberty Nickel in PCGS-MS67+ (a top pop for the entire series!) appeared on Teletrade a couple months back with a reserve of around $20,500. The coin went unsold and then appeared in the Nov. 2012 Stacks/Bowers sale where it fetched over $38,000 with buyers fee. So much for the argument that there are not good (coins or) deals on Teletrade.

Another thing is Teletrade has now become the world wide auction venue for great U.S. Philippine collector coins mostly in PCGS and NGC holders. There are a few hundred coins over there right now (always appearing in the Sunday sales) with another fresh couple hundred coins coming later this month. I believe they have already sold close to $25,000.00 in collector quality Philippine coins over the past few months and it is great to see the interest level rising on this UNITED STATES series. If you like pattern coins ... check out all of the Philippine patterns from the 1960's that trade in the $100- $150/coin range (you can imagine what they would be worth if they were U.S. patterns from the 1960's!) Virtually all of these coins are JHF's dupes to his amazing collection.

If you have any questions about the SLQ's, just send me a PM.

As I said, they are a dumping ground for Stack's. Doesn't mean they don't get good coins, but Stacks's picks out the cream.

Deliabug: Yes, those 4 coins you posted were wonderful SLQ's sold by Stacks/Bowers this Summer. But, one of the coolest SLQ's in the entire JHF collection ... the 1919(s) in PCGS-MS67FH, appeared on Teletrade this Summer before selling in the November, 2012 Bowers sale for $184,000.00!

So, you acknowledge they are getting good coins... I agree.

Regarding the "dumping ground" comment ... I can only draw an analogy to my Hall of Fame Washington Quarter set 1932-date. I sift through more than my share of garbage looking for coins that might be improvements to my set. "Garbage - shmarbage" ... who cares ... if I find a great improvement to my collection it was all worth it in the end - right? It can take takes hundreds and hundreds of coins being vetted to even get an interesting one or two that I bid on. That's the nature of the "hunt".
