Anyone ever try to buy something from the Collectors Corner . . .

ajaanajaan Posts: 18,024 ✭✭✭✭✭
and never have the seller contact you with payment information? I tried to buy something and never was contacted by the seller. I guess buisness is so good they can ignore customers. I'm not about to waste my time trying to call them or anything. That's their job IMO.

Usually they just don't want to tell you that it is already sold to someone else. Sorry to say the site has not been the best venue for me either.
But to give credit some of the dealers are very prompt in replies and keep their listings up to date, others seem to forget about it end up listing items that are no longer available.

After a week, I would think it's just common courtesy to reply.

I usually go to the dealer's site to inquire about something I saw on Collectors Corner. Almost always get a reply.

You would think so, wouldn't you !

I spotted a coin on C.C. last year,
a key date for my SLQ collection
in PCGS 64 grade - without images.

I asked to see the images before I committed.
I had to send him three reminders and he finally
responded that he had "just" sold that coin.
He then said he had a 64+ with a nice head
coming back from the grading room. I said, great,
send me those images ... And what's the price.

No images, no price, no nothing.

A month later, I ask again... Now he says he
sold that coin as well. Now, I'm P.O.'d. He then
assures me he has another in PCGS 63 which is just
as nice and he would bring it to the next show we
were both attending. I ran into him at his table and
asked where is the coin..."oh, I have it out on consignment
with another dealer " ... Ok, I think, maybe there really is a
coin... An hour later he tosses me "the coin" - and it's a POS
that a well known dealer has had in inventory for the last year.
It had a scooped out flattened head, rub up and down both legs
and just a poor to average strike on a date well known for its
    weak strikes.

I just remarked, that I had viewed this coin at the other dealers
a few times during the past year and that the other dealer was
$1500 less ... And I still couldn't believe this guy. He left such a
bad taste with me, I would never - ever - deal with him again.

Oh, and now it's 18 months since I spotted that coin on C.C.
    - and that joker still, has it listed every week. Still, no images.

I'd love to out the SOB... But he's small potatoes !!

In all fairness to C.C., I have bought a fair amount of coins from other
dealers, who were wonderful,to work with. No problems at all. Just good
    honest folk.

My preferred method is to find a coin that I like, look up the seller, and call them on the phone. This is much easier than electronically chasing things around. Very frequently they'll be happy to sell it for less than the advertised price too.

    Call me old fashioned.

<< <i> I'm not about to waste my time trying to call them or anything. That's their job IMO. >>

No pity from me on this one. You either want to buy the coin or you don't.

I see no reason to NOT try and contact the dealer since I fully understand that stuff happens. Emails get lost and sometimes not even delivered. Besides, the amount of time spent making this post could have been used to serve your purposes.

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

You seemed to miss the point of my post. It was to comment on the lack of customer service of a dealer who lists on the CC. The coin wasn't so important to me that I can condone such practices. I have a list of dealers I won't deal with because of their business practices.

UPDATE: I just received an email from the dealer stating that the coin was listed in error. I accept this explanation, just wish they didn't wait a week to let me know.

My first CC experience was a disaster...doubt I will be buying anything off of it in the future.

I have inquired about coins advertised on Collectors Corner on a number of occasions and heard nothing back. I'll give somebody four or five days to respond and if I don't hear anything I assume that the coin is sold and cross the seller off my list as somebody that I want to do business with.

This has happened enough times that I no longer check Collectors Corner as a potential source for coins.
