Newbi question

I'm looking to start collecting coins for investment and fun of course. Are the Morgan Silver Dollars a good investment?

Coins generally are not really a great investment vehicle except the super expensive rarities.
In any event, coins are a long term (20 years) investment, IMO.

Simple fact is after the Lincoln cent the Morgan dollar is the most collected series of coins IMO. You as the new kid on the block are going to have a hard road to hoe making them a good investment. But because they are so many collectors of them building a collocation of them can be very rewarding as there is a wealth of knowledge available about them.

The series also has very many ways the collector can build his collection, there is the Low Ball, Everyman, Date only or mint only, or a date mint set, and when your more advanced the VAM varieties could come into play.

One thing I will say up front a new collector should only buy certified coins until he knows enough to be able to recognize the counterfeits that abound in the series now.

Best advice I can give is to find something you like to collect; buy the books and read them; and then enjoy the hunt.
Profitable coin collecting/investing, as previously mentioned, takes time.
