Are the two display boxes new acquisitions or have you had them???
I picked up a beautiful die-cuts box last summer that is very simiilar in condition to yours; never seen a cloth series box though--very sharp!! >>
I've had the boxes for awhile now. Is your die-cuts box the "Tasty" soup version, or the "Campy"? I ask because there seem to be several high grade copies of the "Tasty" version around. I've seen several (like mine) which have a Topps promotional stamp on the bottom, is yours like that?
The cloth box is pretty tough. I'm always amazed that even in high grade stuff like this doesn't really command huge bucks, relatively speaking.....
<< <i>If that cloth box was full . . . Or any of the other ones for that matter! >>
The one below isn't mine, just one from the archives....the only problem with this box is...the cloth packs contained 2nd series checklists! Another wacky mystery....
I use magazine-sized comic bags. The normal ones were a shade too small for the regular series wacky boxes, but I found a different brand that fit them perfectly.
This 85-fold 5th series yellow pack is one of the rarest series 1-16 packs, right up there with 11th series green packs. And it's fun being the only person on earth who cares
<< <i>Picked up two 7th series gumless packs for $15 at the Philly Non-Sport Show yesterday...opened one and found this beauty!
I know almost nothing about Wackies...tell me more about this card! >>
The original version of this card read "Dusty Greasy Chunks" (see below). A complaint was filed that the parody unfairly attacked the quality of the product. So the description was changed to "Heavy Chunks." The tagline on the bottom was also changed from a reference to "Dirty Dogs" to "it's a knockout."
This card is substantially rarer than the original version. In fact, the card "Big Muc" (from the same 7th series) was removed on the same sheet on which this change was made.
I bought a wacky 8th series full 48 count box already gai graded 7.5 up to 9 mint blue not orange wrappers for 3k last year. I'm not a wacky expert and think I paid above retail because I was told it was the coveted blue not common orange wrappers. I'd never seen one before and was told it could be a test issue. Is it a test issue? How much did I overpay? Interested in making an offer on it wacky guru or anybody else? Love and laughter, Slacker
goal is to build my 1962 topps mars attacks set psa gpa 8.25.
I've seen your eBay box. The 8th blue packs are definitely rarer than the orange. I happen to have found a lot of 25 8th blue packs in perfect shape a few years ago, but before that I rarely saw any of them. I feel they are worth $45-65 apiece in nice shape, so on a per pack basis, your box price isn't crazy. I just think buyers are very scarce for such an item, and you will probably have to drop the price significantly to sell it.
By the way, the 8th series blue packs are not a "test issue" per se. Many Wacky Packages series used two different wrappers, a new one created for the series and leftover ones from previous series. For example:
3rd series packs come in both red and yellow wrappers 5th series packs come in both yellow and blue wrappers 8th series packs come in both blue and orange wrappers 11th series packs come in both green and yellow wrappers
In almost every case, the "old" wrapper (i.e. the color that had been used for the previous series) is rarer and worth more (ie 3rd red, 5th yellow, 8th blue). For 11ths, it's a little different, and all 11th series packs are rare and valuable, both green and yellow.
