Kellogg's?

Anyone collect any of the Kellogg's sets? I was thinking about starting but am worried about cracking. If I were to buy the card raw and it was curled, would it tend to crack if I were to place in a sleeve?
Are some years less prone to curl/crack?
Thanks

Cracking is a MAJOR issue. Yes, the card would probably crack if already starting to curl and you tried to reverse the curling by placing the card into a sleeve. I've seen uncracked cards in PSA holders develop cracks; probably due to temperature/humidity changes.

  • Are we talking about the 3-D Kellogg's cards? I have a bunch of those from the 80's. Maybe a few from '79. Some do have cracks. But I noticed they have tanned through the years as well. But the curling is probably the biggest issue you will find. I have not tried laying them flat like between a book or anything but I guess this would make them crack?
  • Thanks for the replies!

they curl because the plastic layer has shrunk over time compared to the paper layer, sort of similar to the N172 Old Judge cards from 110+ years before with its photographic layer shrinking...

2 frosted flakes box tops and $2 was easy for any kid to do... keep that in mind when you go paying crazy $$ for "10's" as many of us still have multiples of ea. years white cardboard folder boxes straight from company with the complete sets untouched inside....

1971 you had to build the set one at a time w/ a shtload of dups, its a different animal

  • The cards usually crack when you flatten them. I've been collecting the Kellogg's sets for years and I've had to replace a bunch of stuff because of cracking. I've gotten most of it into slabs now, so it's safe, but buying raw can be tricky.
