1984 Topps John Elway PSA 10

I've noticed this card has really been shooting up in price. I picked one up for $900 9 months ago. The last 3 over the last couple months have sold for $1500-$1725. It's a pretty dramatic increase.

This goes back to the argument in the 1976 Brett thread about the worthiness of an investment for a newer abundant card. The PSA 10 Elway is notoriously difficult, but there are still thousands to be submitted and opened via wax most likely.....yet this card has almost doubled in price recently...

  • I don't track this set very closely.

I think at one point in time, the Montana rc PSA 10, Marino and Elway were all pretty much the same price ($2500-$3,000).

That is a very strong price for that card. The 84 Marino, 86 Rice, and 81 Montana all seem to be selling for a premium these days as well.
  • There are still a lot out there to be graded but it's still a PSA 10 of a HOF QB! As mentioned prior, I recall the top 80's rookies going for a few grand each. Don't forget there are a lot graded by BGS as well. I see that making an impact on the value compared to a 70's card in PSA 10 because BVG sucks. haha
  • it's a tough 10 for sure. i was talking about the card with one of the high-powered dealers at the national and he said it was $1,200+ at the time

It just seemed random to double. It's not like the guy's been in the news much and the pop report has increased by 2or 3 over the past year. It's still a super rare card, but at the same time I fear a lot more popping up because it seems like there is SOOOOO much 1984 football unopened out there
