1971 Rose....Review?????

This card looks awesome and crazy undergraded. I've looked at this thing with every possible angle and lighting and can not figure why it shouldn't be an 8 easily.

How about Hank? Sure looks undergraded to me.

The Rose does not "shock" me. PSA is brutal on the issue especially with corners. The lower left and upper left appear to have some very slight rounding (they are not square) and the top left and right show some white. The lower right is not square either and appears to have a slight chip. With some issues with all four corners, I can see PSA putting this in a 7 holder. With that said, it would seem to be a prime candidate for a 7.5 holder. It would not shock me if it did eventually end up in an 8 holder, however (I have had as much as 2 point fluctuations in grading this issue through crack and resubmits; I have had prior 6s, for example, come back as 8s). Given the great price difference between a 7 and an 8, if I owned this card I would try a crack and resubmit at least.

On the Aaron, I don't profess to be intimately familiar with the 62 issue. However I know, like the 71s, the wood grained borders really magnify any corner issues. The top right appears to have some minor rounding and each of the three corners appear visibly "dinged." I can therefore see PSA putting this into a 7 holder. I think, overall, the chances of this one getting a bump up to an 8 are less than the Rose.

All told, and based on my experience, PSA is highly critical of any noticeable corner issues on color bordered issues. You have found two examples that illustrate that point.

Are you prepared to gently cup them with royal blue cotton/poly blend gloves?

Knowing Danny he doesn't pull the trigger on this deal because I think he feels like a bump on at least 4 of those 5 cards.

Danny's got a good eye. His 55 Bowman Mantle is as nice, if not nicer, than the PSA 9 that PWCC just sold.

I agree with bobby. They look accurately graded for the most part. Centering is killer, but the corners fit the grades.

I don't think I've gotten that intimate with a baseball card-- yet. But like Harold Ramis said in Stripes, "I am willing to learn".

    Boo,
Thanks for the offer; but I will pass. I will make an offer in general..........someone show me a Rose in a 7 holder like that and I will go 130% VCP. Ebay doesn't always have high end stuff; but show me any of these cards on Ebay in these grades that look nearly this nice. If you do; they will for sure be in completed auctions as they would sell in a heartbeat.

    Thunderdan,
Yes, I saw the PSA 9 55 Bowman...it was not nearly as centered s/s as my high end 8. I think my color and focus is also better. It went for good money.

Folks, thanks for the comments. It's always fun to share opinions about nice cards.
