I've been considering "joining" as a submitter at PCGS so I was looking at the Fee Schedule and Service Levels this evening when I noticed what will be effective in 2013. This caught my eye:
-----RECONSIDERATION: Use the Reconsideration service if you would like to have your PCGS-graded coin regraded without being removed from its current holder. If your coin’s grade is determined to improve by one numeric point or more, it will be cracked out of its current holder, given the new grade, and placed in a new holder.
-----Fees: Standard grading fees will apply whether the coin upgrades or not. Coins that do upgrade will also be charged a Guarantee Premium based on the value of the coin.
-----GUARANTEE PREMIUM: The Guarantee Premium is equal to 1% of the value of the coin in its final grade. The value of the coin is determined as the higher of the Declared Value or the PCGS Price Guide value for that grade. The minimum amount for the Guarantee Premium is $5. PCGS reserves the right to make the final determination of the coin’s value.
What are your thoughts on this option, is it something you might use??

my thoughts are thus:
read the recent threads with MANY replies if they didn't end up getting poofed lol
.
<< <i>so i missed something??
oh man ya, people here were ALL over the announcements/changes
i only suggested reading those threads because of the massive info in them
.

<< <i>well, i looked back a few pages and tried a feww searches and didn't find anything. was the reception generally positive or negative? >>
I'll give you a hint. Search for "tax" in the thread title. There's about 5 pages of comments, including DW's.
Keeper of the VAM Catalog • Professional Coin Imaging • Prime Number Set • World Coins in Early America • British Trade Dollars • Variety Attribution

-------strangely, the thought which came to me about using the service had to do with coins in "collectible" holders.
