Tracking vintage Baseball Card Values in SCD

I recently received my Dec 14 Sports Collectors Digest and there is an article in it that discussed card values. I was surprised at some of his conclusions.
Anyone else ?

I will have to go to the card shop to pick up a copy. I did not know that the SCD was still in publication. I am sure it is very small in size now. I remember when it was newspaper form and was the size of a Thanksgiving Day newspaper.

IMHO the article is worthless, as it is talking about cards that have not been graded.
  • Interesting article, though to say that cards overall are selling for 20% more than they were in 1989 is a stretch. Sure, some do, but beckett prices haven't budged for vintage stuff in 20 years. plus with shipping, ins, and seller fees/premiums, the cost to sell is more like 20% than his factored 10.

Then there's the professional grading phenomenon which has been a complete paradigm shift in the investing side of the hobby and he doesn't mention slabbing even once. The hobby he is writing about is quite differnt than the one where someone is happily paying $20,852 for a $60 Ozzie Smith RC only because PSA says its perfect.
