I have been working on a project. I have been buying one of every box I ever opened as a young collector.

This was a good time to add the 1989 Upper Deck Low # box.

I have BBCE shrinkwrap the box and display them. I have a LONG way to go but am pretty much going to do 1984-1992.

The good news it is not that expensive.
** Working on the following sets-2013 Spectra Football Hall of Fame 50th Anniversary Autograph set, 2015 Spectra Football Illustrious Legends Autograph set, 2014-15 Hall of Fame Heroes autograph set. **

For some of us it's bad news unless you're interested in a 1988 Donruss box for $80.

Today's Special: HAND COLLATED sets in all sports at 20% off plus shipping. This special is for sets from 1986 through the present only. This does not include Factory Sets, Traded Sets, Update Sets, etc.

That's going to be a tough sale. I have found that hand collated sets from those years are becoming almost impossible to sell today

I almost missed the "1986 through the present only" qualifier... I was surfing their 1970's sets before I realized it... lol.
  • mtcardsmtcards Posts: 3,340 ✭✭✭
The cost of shipping on the majority of the hand collated sets would be more than the cost of the set unfortunately. I checked the site, but it looks like about 90% of the sets are factory and traded sets, so its kind of a narrow item.

It looks like this forum has really cleaned out BBCE. Just looking what's available in high end unopened on their website...not too much!

Not just the guys here, but customers and dealers from all over the world. We have been getting hammered selling just about everything. (By no means is that a complaint!) The pressure is really on me to find more product. I have close to 40 open leads from all over the country, but it takes time to make it everywhere. Steve is doing his best with what we have in inventory to come up with some interesting specials for the 12 Days of Christmas promotion, but we'll try to reload during the end of December/early January.

While I try to avoid going on buying trips in December (weather, holiday scheduling conflicts for both myself and sellers), I've had an overwhelming response from the MD/VA/WV/OH part of the country. I'm headed that way on Wednesday for one last buying trip, and I should be back home in Buffalo just in time for Christmas. While vintage unopened doesn't fall into our laps every week, this trip does offer some promise. There are set runs (50s, 60s, and 70s baseball, 50s and 60s football), modern inserts (potentially thousands of GU/auto cards), and three stores that want us to buy them out!

The guys on the unopened thread are killing me with the great stuff they have.

Is this a good deal? I like supporting BBCE, but the discounted price seems at market value.
  • mtcardsmtcards Posts: 3,340 ✭✭✭
Its an ok price, but you are really paying for the BBCE quality as opposed to the actual cards. I havent seen an 84 rack case in a while, but would think that its on par with theper rack price if you bought a case

  • I'm in for the 84 Donruss. I also feel more comfortable knowing what I'm getting vs the risk through ebay. Plus, at this rate I'll have a month of fun!

I think BBCE normally sells those at $20 per rack

12 Days of Christmas Specials Day #4
Today we are offering 12 boxes of 1983 Topps baseball vending for $50 per box plus shipping. There will be a limit of 2 boxes per customer. We will keep the box price at $65.00 per box on the website and will adjust it on our end. If you use a credit card, we will adjust it ourselves. If you use paypal, a refund will be sent back to you through payal. These boxes will last for the remainder of our Christmas sale, or until we sell out. We cracked open a sealed case for this special. Thanks! Steve
  • Went to put 2 in my cart but was showing $18 in shipping, seems awfully expensive so I passed.
  • BBCE shipping on ebay is much lower, not sure why it is so high on the website.

A 20 box case on ebay $35 shipping, on the website $66.24???

I guess putting anything on sale is better than nothing, but 12 boxes of something, then allowing 2 per person means that 6 whole people can take advantage of it is not that big of a deal. Heck, there are probably 50 people on this site that buy things regularly from BBCE, so a lot of people left out of these

That's my one criticism of BBCE... you can't tell how many of any item they have in stock at any given moment. Do they have any 1983 Topps Vending boxes still in stock... who knows? I can go to their site and add 1,000,000 1983 Vending boxes and pay my $65,000,000 via PayPal to BBCE... and then wait for my box(es) to arrive. image

A simple phone call or e-mail to Steve (two things I have done myself) should get you the desired information you need, and probably more quickly and satisfactory than complaining about it here. He has always answered my inventory questions, and I thank him for that.

I know for a fact he deletes items from his inventory and website when he sells out. I had to update my cart on Black Friday twice when trying to submit an order, because an item I tried to order caused an error to occur during the checkout because it was no longer in-stock.

I am glad for the opportunity to purchase good items at a discount. He does not have to offer these items at all, whether or not we agree/disagree on how he sets the rules. After all it is his company, and he owes all of us absolutely nothing, especially with how generous he has been with us on the boards in the past. I look forward to what else he has planned for the rest of the 12 Days of Christmas.

I do call and e-mail Steve and I've mentioned this programming issue to him. You should have called, PM'd or e-mail me instead of complaining about my complaint here. image

I agree. If something shows up on their site and 10 people try to buy it, but they only have 1, there is going to be a whole lot of wasted time by BBCE themselves in processing refunds...and there will be a whole lot of customers frustrated that the card/box was still listed despite being sold. Also, the number available might make or break a sale. For example, if I am interested in "junk" wax boxes, it might not be worth it to me to purchase 1 box and pay $10 shipping. But if I know they have 4 of them (or I know that they for sure have 3 other boxes I am looking at on their site), then it makes more sense if I can have 4 boxes shipped for $15 or so. It makes sense from both ends to have the number available listed and automatically updated by the website when something is purchased. It can't be that difficult to program a website to do that.

Thats a nice price, but that is out of my range. I dont know what the chances of getting a Gretzky in 2 packs are. I felt lucky enough to pull a Rice and a Young in the 86 FB from 4 packs, but that was $11 each. I would not want to tempt such fates.
