It looks like PCGS pulled the 1937 DDO Requirement from the Mercury Variety Set

It was there for a bit a time, and now its gone. I wonder what other changes they are making. It is sure confusing with the change in and out.

    I think it is a mistake and is being looked into.

    Tony, I'm on the couch...go ahead and post the photo if you want. It is not the strongest DDO for the series but it is in the CPG.

    No. PCGS will likely just put Minor DDO on the label. Not worth it as it would add quite a bit to your expense and there just isn't strong enough demand for you to get your money back. If you have one to sell, it would be best to just note it in the sale and have AWESOME photos of it. What grade is yours?...if it is high enough of a grade and is the "right" DDO for my standards, I might have an interest if you are selling it.

    There are 7 DDOs for the date. It would require a good amount of study to figure out which one you have because they are so similar. I used to own one but got rid of it since it was not a part of the PCGS Registry set and it had a bad "issue."

    Oh, and the coverage of the variety in the CPG is terrible. They mention the primary PUP as IGWT and then show a photo of the Designer's Initials. Really really Bad. They do mention the date but the date is the strongest thing to notice in all 7 of them, fyi.

    Before I knew what the heck I was doing...here is a photo of the one I had.

    Oh...at the time that I labeled the above photo as FS-101, I really was not sure and I am not sure now...and I would have to study it along with the photos and commentary I have for all 7 of the DDOs for the date. There are Die Scratches all through the date but that feature is only mentioned for WDDO-002 but the photos of my date do not match the photos for the date of the WDDO-002 in the Treasure Hunting Mercury Dimes 2nd Edition 2005 book. Go figure. I would have to open my original photos up full size on my computer and study all of the other die markers.

    WoW very cool. I was out today and found 1 or two just needed to know i was on track. I think they will go MS64+ FB, I may send them to Anacs if PCGS will not grade them. But you can see the DDO on them well. I'll try to take some pic in a bit. image

    Yeah, It was in there for a few weeks until Mr. Faroane decided that they had made a mistake by attributing mine. I don't routinely peruse the C/P's exception list so I didn't know it had been excluded for being a "minor" variety. SOOO.... they pulled the certification number from my slabbed example and voila, a worthless slab. After this example was slabbed, ran across the 67fb example and had to buy as it would be a pop 1. So I'm two deep in this mess and it ultimately led me to the decision to end my quest for Mercury varieties. This monkey knows when he's been shocked.image As for the doubling, I think it is quite pronounced on the date. I know the Jefferson and Lincoln series and will tell you there are definitely more minor varieties in those series. JMHO

    Well, I was the one who got cherrypicked by Ricc yesterday. When I saw the post today, I pulled 'em out and using 20X, found 17 more. About a dozen are the 101, and the others look to represent one or two other varieties of DDO. I can't post good pics ( gotta get a macro setup!), but these look just like the above pics, with perhaps a bit more separation on the tip of the 7. I guess I'll have to spend a bit more time assessing when I'm 2X2ing and grading!

    Edited to add;
    Ricc, thanks for bringing this to my attention, Cherrypick isn't a dirty word!image
