SOLD**SOLD** 1896-S Barber 50c PCGS XF40 Very Original. SOLD SOLD

SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD

Deeply toned key date 1896-S Barber Half Dollar graded XF40 by PCGS. Coin was purchased by me almost 2 years ago in a public state auction of unclaimed property. This would qualify as a "fresh" coin. I am pretty confident I was the first owner to submit the coin for grading, although I can't rule out the possibility someone submitted it many years ago and then cracked it out to store it raw in a safe deposit box.

It was questionable if it would slab in my opinion, as my experience is many Barbers this dark don't slab or come back as Environmental Damage. I think PCGS got it right as there is no ED, no corrosion or other problems other than a small scuff in the obverse right field which is consistent with a circulated grade. The coin actually has at least XF45 detail and maybe AU detail with a very bold strike, full brow, full feather detail and almost all other details nearly 100% complete. Most likely "net graded" to XF40 where much of the luster is submerged under the toning. Luster is prominent on the eagle, shield, stars and other devices and yields a strong circulated cameo look to the coin. Luster is also apparent on the obverse devices although the cameo look is more prominent on the reverse.

In my opinion, this coin is best suited for a collector who appreciates a truly 100% original piece. One thing it isn't is flashy. But there are no wipe or cleaning hairlines at all, the strike is deep and bold and to me anyway, the eye appeal is magnificent.

7 day no questions asked return and I will pay the return shipping cost as well. Check or money order only please. No Pay Pal or credit cards. $1000 or Best Offer delivered, insured priority mail with signature confirmation.
I am open minded to PCGS Barber Halves and/or Quarters in AU of fair/equal value for coins I am in need of as partial or full payment as well as or in conjunction with cash. Too many to list here so pm if you're interested. Thank you for your time.
