My Favorite Sets...Thx CU Forums

Since joining CU I have fell in love with Vintage and would like to show my favorite sets. Lets start with Hockey, my first choice in bulding my PC. I have none of these cards yet, but I will one day. If any of these are your images I am sry but I just pulled them from google images image

What a beautiful set. The Orr card is amazing and I plan on it or his Rookie being my first purchase from Orr's base cards.

1970 OPC

Anothergreat looking set and this Orr will be mine too one day!

1984-85 OPC

My favorite set of the 80's and I was lucky enough to just purchase a Stevie Y PSA 8 and Chelios PSA 8. I plan on owning all the greats in this set.

Now onto Football

1959 Topps

I am a huge Giants fan and plan on buying this Huff Rookie soon. Love the design of this set.

1958 Topps

Iconic set design with this Great Rookie.

1962 & 1985 Topps

Was able to pick up the Walker recently in a PSA 8, plan on buying the others shown soon.

On to Baseball

1961 Topps

I can thank Foo for this one. His Maris that he got not too long ago really made me fall in love with this set. I plan on picking up a Maris and Mantle for my Pops one of these years.

1954 Topps

This Banks Rookie was a favorite as a kid. I think it is on eof the most beautifull cards I have ever seen. One day, one day...

1957 Topps

Like the Banks above, this Brooks Robinson Rookie is another stunner and the set design is great.

Basketball

1988=89 Fleer

image

Love this set and these three cards will be mine one of these days.

1957 Topps

image

These two examples aren't the prettiest, but those two Rookies are amazing looking and along with a Jordan Fleer and Star, Chamberlain Fleer, Bird/Magic Topps will be the centers of my Basketball PC!!!!!!!!!!

Other Sports

Wrestling All-Stars

image

Thanks to Dpecks posts this set has really grown on me and I plan on getting some key rookies some time

Allen & Ginter

Gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1914 Cracker Jack

image

I will one day own this Cobb and a Shoeless Joe from this set.

Garbage Pail Kids

image

One of my most important childhood memories is of searching the city for these with my Dad. A PSA 9 or 10 Adam Bomb and Blasted Billy are must owns for me along with others from these sets throughout the years they were produced.

I know I am forgetting a bunch but it's a start. What are some of your favorite sets issued throughout the years.

Nice to see the Wrestling All Stars make your list!

  • I think this thread should of been titled "Cards I would have purchase if I would of hit the powerball" lol

Very nice selection of cards overall. Very balanced out. This could get a little crazy so my advice to you is to have relaistic goals and a collecting plan in place. Not saying that owning a "Shoeless" in unrealistic but just be prepared to save up A LOT of money and dont plan on purchasing any other cards for at least a year. Stay focused on what you really want and if you need to sell other cards that you can live without to upgrade to other cards, then so be it.

    Cheers

I do love the 1988-89 Fleer design, but picking it over the 86 set is pretty interesting.

Not that the jordon rc isn't f'ing sweet, but complete set-wise, I agree. Jordan wasn't jordan without pippen.
  • Thanks Marc. That is the plan. My next card purchase is going to either be a Gordie Howe Rookie or the Gretzky Rookie and I have been saving for it only. These were more along the lines of cards that CU Forums have made me appreciate, other than the GPK of course image. I never thought I would be as big a fan of Bobby Orr, but after being part of these forums and reading others thoughts he has really become a must in my PC. The rest are the same way. That 61 Maris would never have caught my eye had you not purchased and gushed about it. Same with Dpeck and the Wrestling Cards.
