Why do "some" card collectors take sooooo long to pay on eBay?

Of all the things I sell on eBay, card collectors take the longest to pay. Not collectively, but no other "type" of collector has taken more than 24 hours to pay. I've only had to file a couple NPBs; all of whom were card collectors. I currently have two card collectors that haven't paid in over 10 days. eBay is an interest free layaway program with no reprecussion if you don't eventually pay. That felt good! image

Collectibles in general aren't necessity, so they'll always lose out on payment if rent and electricity is due. Consumables and necessities are typically purchased because they are needed with some sort of immediacy; sports cards and other discretionary items, on the other hand, are wants, not needs. It doesn't make it right, doesn't make it smart; my take is that if you can't afford to pay the moment you've purchased, more than likely you're not in a position to purchase the item. That said, there are always legitimate reasons that payment might be delayed. Snipes that go off when a user doesn't have access to the internet, lack of liquidity of assets used to pay for said items (more true on large purchases), or some true emergency come to mind. Real issues do exist, though, more often, it's probably someone needing extra time to figure out how to pay for the item.

Busy lives and snipe services. I only check ebay twice a week - mid-week and Sunday nights. If I win an item on Monday via sniping I don't know I've won it until Wed. or Thurs when I check ebay. Then I pay all at once. By only paying twice a week it saves me time on Paypal. Just one collectors methodology, but a possible explanation for payments taking a few days after the item is won.

  • As a rule in general for my eBay auctions, I always suggest a 7 day window to pay. The longer you give the person to make payment the more bids you will get. Just be flexible with people, were still in a bad economy, thats my two cents worth.....

    These threads are tiresome!

I have tried to explain the solution in the past.

Bottom line is ebay is the easiest, cheapest, safest most profitable way to sell your items.

If you don't like ebay's policy rowards buyers, Open a "brick and mortar" store. When you sell your items you will get immediate payment, you can even require cash.
