1887 V Nickel Corrosion or just crud?

Is this crud on the coin or corrosion? I posted this coin to another forum and people said a variety of things about the surface. I don't see corrosion on the surface but do see some crud or some PVC. What do you think? I certainly don't think that every V Nickel needs to be clean and white face. I am going to have to take it out of the 2x2 and see if it moves but don't think what I am seeing is on the surface itself or is there?

I think it's a little of both. If you don't own the coin, I'd suggest you pass.

It is always hard to tell from a picture... But, I agree with Shamika; a little of both.
