Just ripped a 1980 Wax Box. Have a question

I treated myself to a Thanksgiving rip of a 1980 Baseball Wax Box. I pulled a nicely centered Henderson but the top right corner has a little extra piece of cardboard, (almost like a hanging chad). All 4 corners are sharp but this little piece is driving me nuts and I don't know if I should try to get it off, scissors, tweezers, other ideas or just leave it as is?? Any thoughts would be appreciated. I don't have a good enough scanner to get a close shot of it. Thank you Jeff

    Jeff, that issue is common with Topps cards from that era. If you can pinch it off without touching the corner, or leaving a trace, I would say try it, but be careful.


    Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.

    Leave it, based on my self dork experience. Same thing with a ripken rookie here a couple years ago. Tried to trim it. did get the chad but could totally then tell it was cut.

    As tempting as this may be, do not mess with the card. Chances are you may cause more harm than good. From what your describing, you still may have a PSA 9 Henderson which would be amazing considering everyone one I’ve seen pull one from the group rips has always been an 8 or less.

    Just send it in and once you get it back, if it still bothers you, sell it and repurchase a 9 that you will be happy with.

    Thanks for the feedback everyone, I'm going to take another close look at it under 10x and make a decision. Then I'll try to figure out if there are any low pop commons that may be worth me taking a closer look at. Jeff

    Leave it. I got an '82 Montana with the same thing and ended up scoring a PSA 9 on it.

    First, congrats on the pull! Second, post a scan! One of the things I love about this board is seeing all of the good stuff others pull from packs/racks/boxes.
