Top Shelf Junk - Help Make A List Of Low Run Factory Parallel Sets From The Junk Era

I'm trying to track down low run factory sets from the junk era. For whatever reason, I really like this kind of stuff, and I was hoping we could come up with a pretty complete list of parallel or otherwise low production runs of factory sets from 1980 - 2000.

Baseball

Topps Gold: 1992
Topps Rockies/Marlins: 1993
Topps Rays/Diamondbacks: 1998
Stadium Club: 1992 (Skydome) 1993 (Murphy)
Bowman Tiffany: 1989-1990
Fleer Glossy: 1987-1989
Fleer Tradition Glossy: 2000
Upper Deck Gold Hologram: 1992,1993
Score Glossy: 1988

Topps Panthers/Jaguars: 1995
Fleer Tradition Glossy: 2000

Basketball
Topps Gold: 1992/93
Stadium Club Member's Only: 1992/93

Oddball Factory Sets (not parallels)
1996 Topps Basketball
1996 Upper Deck Baseball
Currently Buying:

Go to Beckett's website and do searches on the sets you mentioned. While production numbers aren't available for most sets, you can find estimated print runs for the Tiffany and Glossy sets from the 80s/early90s.
    My Giants collection want list

WTB: 2001 Leaf Rookies & Stars Longevity: Ryan Jensen #/25

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear. I know the print runs of most (all?) the sets above. I'm wondering if there are other sets out there that were parallels or odd ball types during this time frame.

I've always like the Topps Mail-in Glossy sets. I think they're kind of undervalued

Here’s one I thought of: 1995 Topps Football PanthersJags factory sets. (4000 of each)

Not factory set but the 2000 UD Football Vintage previews is a cool set.

Also did you know that the 2000 Fleer Tradition Football set can be found in UNCUT sheets? It was a redemption.

Marlins/Rockies Topps Inaugural sets have the Jeter rookie and are in low print runs and ! believe one is tougher than the other.

    Found this online:
5000 Rockies sets and 4000 Marlins sets were initially printed, but each team had the option of receiving a maximum of 10,000 sets. The Rockies sets were distributed through the four team-owned stores and at Mile High Stadium. The Marlins sets were distributed through FMI and Joe Robbie Stadium.
  • Cool thread. kinda similar, I'm seeking one or two low card count sets that were distributed in packs only. Want to go after a couple sets with 100-200 cards in them to build a PSA set registry. Trying to find something nobody else has out there. Can't do the larger 792 type sets as neither willing to spend the time or money there (if I was retired then heck yes) . Not meaning to interfere with this threads intent but if any has suggestion on low set registry sets with 100-200 cards in them, that only came in packs, and also preferred fromt the top shelf junk pile. please post it.

    thank you !

I'm currently doing a 1994 SP Die Cut Football set that would meet your requirements. Are you looking for more of parallel set or an insert set?

  • Isn't the 1997 Topps BB Factory set a shorter print the previous years? The 1992 Fleer Update BB set as well. 1993 Upper Deck BB Gold Hologram set (You had to break the factory seal to figure it out though).

I'm not sure on the print runs for the Topps and Fleer sets, but I'm pretty sure they're the same cards you would pull out of packs. Totally forgot about the 1993 gold holograms from UD, added.

What about the 1994 Topps Superstar Samplers? They were only distributed in the 1994 Topps "Baker's Dozen" factory sets (those are the ones that say "Special Inserts" on the top, not the "Bonus" ones), and came in a cello-wrapped three-card "sampler" of one MLB player per pack. Each player is represented by his 1994 Bowman, Finest, and Stadium Club cards. These cards are identical to their regular issue counterparts except for a special "Topps Superstar Sampler" emblem on their backs.

The 1993-1996(?) Stadium Club Super Bowl, Division, Championships, etc...., sets from football and basketball were fun. They were mail-in exchange sets for the SuperTeams cards of the winning teams for that year. Also, the 1995 Score Platinum mail-in set is tough to find complete since you could only send away for one team at a time.

And the 1998 Topps Diamondbacks and Rays Inaugural sets. I also think there are some tough "Topps Employee" stamped factory sets but I don't know the specifics.

I am working on the Nolan Ryan master set. Need 1004 more cards to complete. I might actually spend more on plastic than I did on cardboard.

1991 topps stadium club Super Bowl stamped set. I'm not sure if it's the entire set or how it was distributed but it's contains Favres rookie.
Scans of most of my Misc rookies can be found <a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://forums.collectors.com/m...y&keyword1=Non%20major">here

    Stolen from an ebay listing:

In conjunction with the 1992 NFL Experience Super Bowl Card Show in Minneapolis, Topps issued cellophane packs containing Stadium Club cards. These cards are essentially a parallel version of the 1991 Stadium Club release that are distinguishable by an embossed Super Bowl XXVI logo that appears at the top right or left corner of the card front

How about the 1992 Leaf Black Gold parallel set?

  • << <i>How about the 1992 Leaf Black Gold parallel set? >>

There are a lot of great parallel sets, I'm really trying to build a list of sets that came complete from the factory. I do love the Black Gold cards though.

I also like the factory Classic sets from ~1992, but I'm trying to stick to "major" brands

  • I do not believe so. my understanding is that the entire set exists via packs only sold in armed forces bases during desert storm.

Furthermore they are expensive cards. I believe the key card in the set is the chipper. The Ryans run $50+ raw almost every time they are listed. If you were in the armed forces and could foresee the future your could have retired a millionaire picking up many keycards and protecting them that usually were thrown away.

I am working on the Nolan Ryan master set. Need 1004 more cards to complete. I might actually spend more on plastic than I did on cardboard.
  • Baseball:
    Topps Gold: 1993, 1994
Topps CyberStats (some call it DiamondVision): 1995
    Topps Minted in Cooperstown: 1998

You also have two version of 1992 Topps Gold, the much harder to find Topps Gold and those that say "Winner"

If you like football the 2000 UD Football Vintage previews is a small 90 card set. I love this set because each card is individually numbered. Do not get these confused with the 2001 Upper Deck Vintage football.

Here is the 2000 NFL Upper Deck Vintage Preview CHECKLIST

These were only available in a pack that you got for redeeming 2000 SP Football inserts. I sent in Auto redemption from the 2000 SP Football product and I got my auto and this silver pack. It had 2 different Vintage preview cards in it. They look like the 1971 Topps cards.
Cards 1 - 10 in the set were numbered to Rookies # to 500

Next group of two rookies (11-20) were numbered to 1000 (Brady)

The cards with 3 rookies (21-40) were numbered to 1500

The stars (41-90) were numbered to 900 (Manning)

I think this was only issued in set form, but I am not sure. Very difficult to find and in high grade.

I think it took me a few years to get them. Elvis Grbac ($1.50) was the last one I needed and took a few years to popup on ebay.
Shoot me your e-mail address and I can send you my Excel Checklist for the set.

There was only one version, and they're all glossy. 1988 and 1989 was the only year Donruss put them out. In 1987, Donruss put out a similar set called "Opening Day"

I don't think so. I think they were 1 per 15 card pack, 3 per rack packs, and 10 in the factory set.
