I have been looking at the Epson V300, it has looks to be a great scanner but would love to get a all in one. Wonder if Epson has a all in one that scans as well as the V300?
Take the new scanner back. It's still a bit blurry. It appears that your new scanner uses a CIS element, meaning that it will only clearly scan whatever is touching the glass. You'd need to get a scanner that uses a CCD element to get automatic depth correction, which is vital for scanning slabs.
CIS = scans the plastic surface of the slab CCD = scans the card THROUGH the surface of the slab.
Here's an example of what a CCD scanner will do (probstein clearly uses one). Crisp images. You can make out the individual pixels on the card itself with a large enough scan.
Here is a simple test scan using 3 different graded slabs (each has a different depth) and a row card on a single scanner pass. Scanned at 300dpi with full presentation here (not minimized or rescaled). This is from an Epson V300 (purchased for around $85 dlvd). While the image is a bit large, it shows the clarity and detail that is obtained with the CCD element. Just for specifics, I removed my settings and scanned this with the default settings, so this is what you would get at 300 dpi out of the box before tweaking...
And just for full disclosure, this scanner is not recommended if you scan a lot of Refractors or shiny cards as it creates a rainbow or prism effect with those mediums.
I can't say what is available now but when I was looking last year I was told by two major camera/photo shops that CCD is not available in all-in-ones.

<< <i>Finally decided to pick up a new scanner with high resolution. If you sell your own cards like I do what a difference if can make.

Yes, get one with a CCD scanning element
Looking for a all in one with scan/print/copy...
HP would be nice, been on the phone with them for an hour and they they are clueless!
Does HP make a CCD all in one?
I've never seen one.

A little pricey for some, but the Canon Pixma MG8120 is one of the few all-in-ones that have the CCD sensor.
Personally, I'd find a printer/fax/copier that I like and get a CCD flatbed scanner to marry it with.
<< <i>It's a new HP 5510. Gonna try and tinker with it tonight. Maybe I can get a sharper image. >>
The HP 5510 uses the CIS element, which means it's no good if you want to scan slabs.
There is no setting you can use that will fix the problem.

Looks like im going to order this online. Will use my all in 1 for the printing and this for scanning

The problem is because the CIS element cannot scan items with depth. If you want sharp scans you need one with a CCD element.

Unless you are scanning film, you only need the V30
