Why do people pay more at auction on eBay?

I am a collector of unopened packs (graded & ungraded) and boxes. I noticed during the most recent PWCC auction, a 1986 Fleer PSA 8 wax pack went for $492, and BBCE has them for $450. Similar thing happened earlier this summer, dropthepuck20 had a few 79-80 OPC packs listed for $399, and then when he put them to auction, they went for closer to $500.
I figured it's Friday, and that was my head scratcher for weekend!

Two guesses
1. People who spend 500 on unopened items never have heard of bbcexchange?
2. Cause you can shill your own items with 3rd party sellers?
Because it's your job to tell people what they are suposed to pay and you sir are slaking!!!!

one of the Great unsolved mysteries.
I have even noticed people are paying more for auctions than BIN's on ebay.
This is known as “bad luck.”
(many of my card searches are only for items with 1 or more bid so I'm missing out on BIN and last minute first bids).

Bingo!! I do not shill bid any of my items and I barely get people to bid on them. Most of the time, unless the item is very special, more than about 6 or so bids, especially early on, always gets me thinking. I would say there are a decent amount of EBAYERS that are shill bidding or have arrangements with other sellers to bid back and forth to make it look good. I think that was a discussion earlier this year about some of the more prominent consignors.
