    Best quote in that article:

"it will also position the Marlins as one of the most absurdly run franchises in all of sports"

With 2 championships in 15 years, they can run it as absurdly as they want. If it ain't broke, don't fix it and keep on being absurd!

I wonder how their tens of fans that purchased season tickets feel about these changes. If it weren't for the fact that they just built a new ballpark, I think the Marlins should be contracted or moved. This is the third time the team has been gutted (both of the other times coming after World Series wins). How many times will (Proud To Be Your) Bud allow him to Schmidt on the fan base?

I think this will be the year when the A.L. east standings look "upside down" at the end of the season. Glad my Tigers reside in the Central division.
  • I'm one of the mini-season ticket holders and I will be holding off purchasing tickets for the next season unless they bring in some big names. Hamilton and Swisher and free agents so who knows but to trade Reyes is just plain dumb. Marlins seem desperate. How about this: Can we trade Jeffrey Loria? Ughhh

Giants need to call about getting Stanton. That'd be awesome.... sux to be a Marlin's fan.

This further worsens the balance of power in the AL. The unbalanced schedule will put a terrible Central team in a better spot as a result of this trade and further weaken the dwindling NL.
    I collect Cal Ripken cards, T206, E95, E210, R319.

    You said Schmidt. image

I guess Reyes will enjoy his new home in the Great White North!!!

When he left last year he said one of the reasons he went to Miami was because there was a lot of "Latin Flavor" or something like that.

Well Mr. Reyes, tu ferais mieux de commencer à prendre des cours de français.
    STAY HEALTHY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Before this last season, Marlins' ownership was talking about how this year was going to be different. New stadium, new attitude, and they went out and signed every high priced FA they could get to back-weighted multi-year contracts.

Today: All those FA's are gone after 1 season and the Marlins are a minor league team again.

I thought Jose was the only other 'safe' player on the Marlins.

The only good thing out of this...we got rid of Buck.

Oh its broken alright. Assembling a poor-man's all-star team for 1 year, then completely dismantling....thats no way to treat fans. Fans like to follow players over their careers and franchises have to have cornerstones. If you LIKE having a brand new team every year, you need therapy.

Nope, but I hear that they're renaming it to "Jeffrey-Loria-just-porked-you-all" Stadium, to remind the Miami citizens where their tax dollars went (they paid for 80% of the price to build that thing).

  • Staying On the Marlins is really a curse. Good for the players who get to go elsewhere. Hanley went to join the awesome Los Angeles Dodgers. Edward Mujica went on to play in the playoffs and Omar Infante went on to play in the World Series. Not too shabby!

I say they should rename the team "Stanton & Friends"

Stanton will get his turn by next years summer trade deadline.

  • At least there is one team in FL that still tries. If i was Bud (Light), i would only approve this deal if the Marlins were on the hook for at least 50% of the contract value. By the way, what is the exchange rate to Canada on these contracts.
