UD Goodwin Museum Civil War Redemption mailday

So I was lucky enough to get one of these redemptions.

At the time they were selling for about $400. So i would net about $350 after fees.

So I asked on another forum if anyone would want to buy half, we would redeem it and then decide what to do with it when it came in.

Someone bought half and the item came in on Friday.

Union Infantryman Bugle Hat piece.

Card is huge. 6in X 4.5in X 1in thick.

The guy I was partners with is a very cool guy and we talked about putting it on Ebay. I figured $500/OBO. He told me that he buys with emotion and he would pay $700/$800 for this if he was buying

So i put it up at $900 /OBO with an auto accept of $700. Sold within a couple of hours.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

I like that hat pin card you posted, as well as a couple of other cards at the link jlzinck posted.

I do NOT however, like the fact that Upper Deck has apparently cut up a United States flag to put pieces of said flag into cards. That is completely inappropriate and disgraceful, in my not so humble opinion. I spent 24 years in the United States Air Force, and to see a company resort to desecrating a United States flag just to try to make some money really gets me going.

If that is really the case, and they have in fact cut up a flag, then I'm done buying Upper Deck products of any kind. They will never get another cent from me, and I urge others to do the same. As far as I'm concerned, I hope Upper Deck goes bankrupt and ceases to exist!

  • Interesting cards that I am sure will bring top dollar, however I question the Civil War Period authenticity of many of the relics.
If you think fakes/misrepresented items are a problem in the Baseball card world---the Civil War Artifact Hobby is infested with them.
All the buttons could be postwar examples---the only way to tell is to see the backmarks( makers imprint) which are all hidden from view.
The gun hammer--the Hat insigina Bugle and Crossed Cannons are most likely Bannerman pieces(unissued war surplus or struck from the original dies many years after the war).
The only Items I see in the grouping that saw the Civil War are the Confederate Notes and the Two "Ambrotypes"(image on a glass plate--more desirable than a Tintype), which look like Tintypes(image on a blackened Iron Plate) to me.
If you win one--a magnet would be attracted to a tintype but not an ambrotype.
The flag fragments were not cut from an intact flag according to the narrator, and most Civil war flags are falling apart and in tatters, that said, Civil War flags are frequently faked/misrrepresented.
