1897-R Italy 2 Centesimi - GRADE?

Hi Guys-

I bought this coin the other day, the nicest copper coin I have ever seen. Below are a few pictures, but they do not show truely how nice this one is. Full red.

I am thinking of sending it out to PCGS, but i think it is only worth it if it is 65 or better. What do you think?

Only thing that might hold it back are minor flaws on the rim at 3:00. Gorgeous coin in my opinion. I would check the auction houses first to see how much a ms65 or greater is fetching before sending it in. However if you need one more coin to make up a shipment by all means ship it.

I would put it at MS65RB, because of the bit of mellowing of the color on the obverse right side.

With a mintage of 4.4 million pieces, and a value around $45 or so, I'm not sure it's worth submitting unless you need it for a registry set.

The pictures dont show the coin as I wish I could. I always had problems photographing copper.


I might try this coin at pcgs for the hell of it. I think it has a shot at 66 - that would be a top pop.

Wether a 64RD, 65RD, 65RB, or 66RB , it is definitely worth sending in IMO.

If you're not ready for a submission right away, put it aside for when you will be. And remember that TrueView is back at $10!

I think the coin is a red. Its probably going in on my next submission to our hosts.

Reminds me of something liberty.coin would sell on ebay in a secure holder..
