How are plate coins selected for CoinFacts?

cmerlo1cmerlo1 Posts: 7,952 ✭✭✭✭✭
I was thrilled to see that both coins I submitted to PCGS (1952 FS-101 Superbid/Hand-Engraved Tailfeathers PR66, 1998-S Close AM Cent PR69 DC) are now plate coins on CoinFacts. Just curious- how are coins selected for this?

I believe availability is a significant part of the decision process.

I think it really goes by what has been submitted recently and what was Photographed.

Congrats on your coins being shown on there.

On a different note. It is good to see a fellow Texan on this Forum.

I think it comes down to who you know or sometimes a bit of luck.

  • I remember getting an e-mail a while ago on this frpm PCGS and it was the top 5 coins, or condition census if you will, that got on coinfacts.

I have a F12 coin in Coinfacts. It is the lowest graded example for that issue.

The 20-D vf25 Walker in my Everyman set has a coinfacts pic. I believe it was probably there before I acquired it.

This is interesting and I wondered this, too. I have noticed that the COINFACTS coin images often to tend to be VERY high end for the grade, so they are likely selected very carefully from only the best representatives.

Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

Last time I was in there with a free trial, I noticed that quite a number of my cameo proofs were selected for Coin Facts. All were True Viewed a number of years ago. They own the rights to the True Views (I also have rights to use the images), and they show whatever images they want without notification to the owners. That is OK with me as long as someone can't track me down as the owner.

If you aren't a subscriber, here is a link to my cameo proof True Views - Cameos click on a thumbnail and you can scroll thru the rest by hovering slightly above right center.
