Anybody involved in a Collector's Club in their area?

I've been thinking about starting some sort of Sportscard Collector's Club in Northern Virginia and I was wondering if anyone on here was involved in something like this where they live? I found a good club in the Twin Cities area - tcscc.org, but didn't find much else out on the web. Looking for any advice or if anyone in the Northern VA area is interested, let me know.

Basically, I'm thinking of a group that maybe meets once a month, perhaps for trading, selling, showing off collections, etc... But the biggest part would be doing something like box or case breaks - whether they were for vintage, shiny new stuff, or 90's junk wax. We could put together big grading submissions, perhaps do some group ebay selling, etc... Plus other activities like going to games, meeting at shows, fantasy leagues, and other things like that.

I tried putting something out on Craigslist to gauge some interest and I may put together a meetup.com group to publicize it too.

Any ideas are appreciated

  • As I have recently rediscovered the BB card hobby, I also have thought of something like you mention. I believe it would be great if experienced collectors as well as novices could get together and share ideas.
I wonder if there is something like this in the Atlanta area.

Wow, what a great idea. I need something like that here in San Antonio. We have 3 stores, maybe only 2 now, and one lousy card show every couple of months. Would love to meet other collectors here in South Texas.
    CURRENT PROJECTS IN WORK:
To be honest, no direction, but...

1975 minis NrMt Kelloggs PSA 9

  • Your just better off starting a card show in your area. That’s probably going to be your best bet in hopes of gathering local card collectors together at once place in time once a month. Pretty much describes everything you mentioned except fantasy league.

Foo - a show isn't really what I want to do from the start - although, I think that could be something down the line that the group could sponsor and group members could set up in addition to others. I'm actually more interested in bulk buying or box/case breaks and maybe some group subs. I guess kind of like the group rips on here, just in person.

I am a junk wax fan, trying to pull PSA 10s out, but I may not want to buy a whole case of 1991 Score baseball, etc.... But I think it would be cool to also break down a whole case of some new high-end product and see what we could sell as a group. Plus I think it would be great to meet other collectors.
