OT Day 8 - Still no power

It has been 8 days since we first lost power. No heat, no running water and no end in sight. We're very fortunate there has been no damage to the house, but many of our neighbors have not been so lucky.

It's amazing how much our community has come together. FEMA has been passing out ice and water outside our local library and the counties municipal building (where I am now) is offering internet, food and warmth to anyone who needs it. Last night the temperature in my house dropped to 45 degrees, this morning it was at 48. Little tricks to stay warm at night (like hand warmers under the covers) have worked wonders!

It's shocking how much we take for granted; clean water, electricity, a charged phone, internet, gas, a warm place to sleep. There are many much worse off and there is still a lot of work that needs to be done. I hope everyone else effected by Sandy has regained normalcy, and for those who haven't yet, stay strong!

I'm sorry for a depressing post!

I live 2 blocks from the seaport in lower Manhattan - luckily power was restored for us late Saturday night. However, we are now being told 35 days before internet, cable and phone service returns. I'm lucky that is the biggest of my problems, but it is making work extremely difficult. I've been hanging out in random lobbys uptown that have wifi.

I feel for you. Still no power in White Plains, NY. And to top it off, I am on day 46 for my submission.

I feel you. I leave near the seaport as well and got power back late Friday night. Time Warner is back up and running but Verizon is still a mess. I still have no hot water but all things considered we got off pretty easy in Manhattan. Let's hope tomorrow's storm is nothing serious...
