How to Remove Gold Paint Pen from a Glossy Photo

Question for the board...

I have an 8*10 glossy photograph that was signed in Gold paint marker. The photo is quite rare, so when one came up for sale, I jumped on it. Problem is, it was personalized... And not to me! Taking a risk, I decided to try to remove th personalization with acetone. It worked wonderfully, taking t all off without any damage to the photo. However, the original personalization left a bit "shadow effect" in places. In other words, some of the original personalization can be seen when tipping the photograph into the light - not as an imprint from depressing the marker, but as a bit of residue left over.

Has anyone had luck removing this before? If so, how? Looking straight on to the photo, you would never see the residue - but if its able to be removed, I'd light to try.

Jon ... how r u making out? We are still without electric and probably will be until the end of the week. Two weeks w/o electric, especially when the temps are in the 30s, makes for a COLD house! Luckily my parents live 2 miles away and they have power. Staying there to sleep and eat dinner.
    STAY HEALTHY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Doug- good luck buddy. Hope it clears up for you soon. I got power back Saturday night, but have been told no Internet, cable or phone for 3 more weeks. I am very lucky, though, because my apartment building had water come up to it, but not inside. All the buildings next to me have been destroyed - the building across the street is no longer safe for habitation, and all residents in the 400 units can't even go in to get their possessions. My office is destroyed electrically (they will need to require the building, we had water fill the 4 sub-basements, and 9 feet n the lobby), but we were lucky enough to be given alternative space by another law firm, so starting Wednesday, we will be operating out of different office for the next 2 months.
