How can we sell on Ebay any longer?

After seeing what I have on this board about people getting taken and paypal just letting it happen, I just can't stomach selling on Ebay. I will have to sell through message boards, consignors, craigslist, shows, auction houses, anything but taking the chance of getting ripped off by these scumbags as well as Paypal/Ebay itself who just lets it happen. Just sickening! I am all ears if someone knows a way to protect yourself but it seems paypal doesn't honor the seller protection policy it has???

I agree. It really sickens me to read about those rip offs. I have not sold on ebay for quite some time and it is because of that. I never have been riupped off and I want to keep it that way. I have a couple of 1950's Topps and Bowmans graded PSA 9's and 8.5's that I don't want to chance on losing.

Illinifan, I will be checking it out also. Thanks!
  • If your reputation is perfect, accept PP gift only as payment, you will lose some buyers, but if you are going to give up on Ebay all together it cant hurt. I dont believe a buyer can pull any of this crap if payment is gifted, just a thought. Troy

The stories of scams and mishaps posted on these boards are extreme cases. While I understand the frustration many have with eBay, unless you are willing to develop your own website and can manage to garner enough traffic to support your sales, eBay is the only real solution for online sales that is convenient, provides quick payment and is typically problem free.

Now, before some go on with their one-off tales of woe, I remind many that a lot of the issues that others have had have been partially the fault of the complainer.

I have used eBay as both a buyer and seller since inception and have been burned as a buyer one time when I was unable to recover the original payment. I have never been burned as a seller. In total, I've probably participated in approximately 10K transactions with a 6 figure total in the past 15 years. I think that is a pretty impressive track record for eBay and I would suggest that as either a buyer or a seller, that you take precautions and be aware of what you are purchasing and from what sort of seller. And when selling, be specific and follow the rules. It is when people try to save a little by cutting corners and create a grey area that the problems typically begin.
  • I've sold online since 1997 with a perfect rating and no prolems until about 4 years ago, right after they changed the rules, I sold a guy a car part, he complained and sent me back a box of doggie doo doo and I got the royal shaft.

I don't know what part of that would have been my fault but I haven't sold a card on there since. I'd throw mine in the garbage before I made Meg Whitman another tank of gas for her yacht. And no scammer's going to get a free payday courtesy of my cards and a corrupt system.
