Hello - I've been an active member over on the PCGS coin forum for a number of years, and thought I'd come over here for some help with stamps.
A good friend of mine just inherited a large and potentially valuable collection from his deceased father.
This fellow has no real interest in them, and would like advice on how to determine approximate current market values and what realistic sell prices would be. Apparently the collection had an appraised (retail) value of >$30,000 back in 2001, and knowing a little about this guy's father, it likely contains some scarce and higher grade issues.
Any advice on who best to contact about this collection? Any collectors or dealers in the central FL area that might be able to help?
Thanks in advance!

http://www.centralfloridastampclub.org/ has a listing of shows -- you and your friend might check one out, to solict any friendly/free advice from involved people, who might have good notions of who to approach, who to avoid.
For stamps more than most, an appraised retail value of "X" is likely worth a fraction of that in terms of real-world prices. If your friend can keep that in mind, they're less likely to be greatly disappointed. Good luck!

I believe he is getting physical possession of the collection this weekend, so I'll learn more about specific contents next week.
