Is it really too much of an effort to write Christ-mas ?
Why do some people replace Christ with and X ? >>
From Wikipedia:
"Xmas is a common abbreviation of the word Christmas. It is sometimes pronounced /ˈɛksməs/, but it, and variants such as Xtemass, originated as handwriting abbreviations for the typical pronunciation /ˈkrɪsməs/. The "-mas" part is from the Latin-derived Old English word for Mass, while the "X" comes from the Greek letter Chi, which is the first letter of the Greek word ×ñéóôüò, translated as "Christ".
There is a common misconception that the word Xmas is a secular attempt to remove the religious tradition from Christmas by taking the "Christ" out of "Christmas"."
Halloween Thanksgiving Memorial Day Independence Day Hanukkah
All of these holidays have as many, or more letters then Christmas, and we do not shorten them with Greek letters. But for some reason people have to find a way to take out the word Christ.
Federal recognized holidays are abbreviated in UPPER CASE LETTERS. NYD = New Years Day - January MLK = Martin Luther King Day - January PRS = Presidents Day - February MEM = Memorial Day - May IND = Independence Day - July LAB = Labor Day - September COL = Columbus Day - October VET = Veterans Day - November THK = Thanksgiving Day - November CHR = Christmas Day - December
Other notable dates are in lower case letters. val = Valentines Day - February dsb = Daylight Saving Begins - March spg = Spring Begins - March gdf = Good Friday - March or April eas = Easter - March or April mom = Mothers Day - May dad = Fathers Day - June sum = Summer Begins - June gpd = Grandparents Day - September fal = Fall Begins - September hwn = Halloween dse = Daylight Saving Ends - November win = Winter Begins - December han = Hanukkah *begins at sundown previous day kwz = Kwanzaa - December
Jeez Louise, sorry I wrote Xmas instead of Christmas. My life unfortunately seems to be centered around a constant lack of time & the need to be efficient so please excuse my laziness when I seized the opportunity to omit 5 characters while typing on my iPhone which I think had about 3% battery at the time but the nice experience I have with the secret Santa exchange on the board happened to cross my mind & I'm hoping my post will allow someone with more time than me, & who hopefully doesn't abbreviate anything can have a head start with coordinating it. I must also retort that I do believe in Christ. My preacher was named after Stan Musial and I gave him a Musial Card last year & you should have seen his eyes light up, so this year I got him a psa/dna autographed Musial card for Christmas. I'm thinking I should nominate our fellow boardmember edmundfitzgerald who has been on the board 2 months less than me but has made approximately 2,500 more posts than I have, to head up the secret Santa as he obviously has a lot more free time on his hands than I do I hope everyone has a happy Turkey Day PS: just pokin some fun back at ya edmund! Dean
I dated this girl in high school and he ran several Christmas tree lots. Whenever he'd drive around town seeing people with similar tree lots and it said "X Mas trees!" or something along those lines, he'd get livid. I loved it...

I'm Buddhist, and loves me some secret santa and Christmas. Dave, no excuses! But regardless, I would hope that those of any denomination or religious choice could see that the holidays can bring out the best in peeps. They're a special time.

LMFAO @ ME! Yes, it was HER DAD that ran the lots obviously...damn it!
<< <i>Can someone explain exactly what is involved in coordinating Secret Santa? It may help finding someone to do it. >>
I have done it the last few years and this is what I did. First I post a thread for those interested to post that they are in and then they must PM me a list of information that includes email, mailing address, and type of items they can give and what their interests are to receive.
There has normally been 40-50 people. Then I take all that information and create a Microsoft excel spreadsheet so that I can cross reference all the information and match up people based on their criteria as well as looking at the geographical info, especially the Canadian guys because the shipping times can be rough.
Once you have matched up people you have to PM each person with the information they need to try and satisfy specific interests and mailing information. You also must continue to follow up (pester) each person to get their items shipped and let you know when they do so you can update the thread so that everyone gets their stuff before Christmas.
I sure had a great member in my mind but would want it by hif first. I do know hes without power right now so ill run it by him next time he's on.If this is something the poster above would like to run, even better,I dasnt have to ask my idea,

Independence Day
Hanukkah

I won't be able to play gatekeeper, but a hearty appreciation to the brave soul who can. Looking forward to participating!!

Dave, you don't have to celebrate the Holiday to enjoy a good gift exchange. It's your choice, but I must say - it can be a really fun event.
