Not sure if it is a coin. The crudeness of the lettering makes me wonder if it is a souvenir medallion of some sort, perhaps made for tourists as late as the 18th or even 19th century? Just a guess.

So the inscriptions seem to be:
S IOHA NNES B = Saint John the Baptist
FLOR ENTIH = Florence [Edit: from Tom below:] FLORENTIA
And as jonathanb mentioned, the above coin is copper.
So I guess the question now is who made this copy and when....
