Another strategy for the future for your 401’s – collect money (old coins) & banknotes - I am British therefore I write about the subject I know. You might get a surprise on the yield over 10+ years. See the NON COMMERCIAL site to enjoy the ART OF COINS www.petitioncrown.com
If you could choose only one alternative investment, which of the following would it be?
Art 24%
Automobiles 19%
Coins 39%
Horses 6%

But SwK is talking alternative investments, meaning not bonds and equities. Know when to hold em and no when to fold em if investing. Luckily I don't consider my coins an investment just a collection, and if my heirs can get something for the collection good on them.

Automobiles...with the price of cars today 19% would cover the cost of a new car.
Coins....Not bullion...
Horses as an investment...if your breeding maybe....owning for pleasure, money pits. Had a few as we were growing up on the farm. They were fun but not worth the hassel.
Wine...yeah I could build up a stock pile I guess. I dont get joy out of $200 bottle wine, but dont mind spending 15-50 on something really enjoyable
Ive purchased many guns...most any I could sell for a profit at any time. Always in demand.
