Upgrading your collection

Have you ever found yourself with tons of stuff that you somehow came across that you no longer need or want?

I have "starter sets" from most years from 1960-1979 that are just taking up space and not doing much for my enjoyment of the hobby. If anything, it causes me a level of stress just looking at the boxes just sitting there. My thought is too try and sell these and use those funds to purchase higher end cards, reduce my inventory and still have a nice collection. My problem is that I do not know the best way to do this.

Should I sell it as one giant collection? Should I break it up by year? Do I list each card (number only) I have? Should I pull the stars from the sets and sell them individually or keep them as part of the lot?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

    It depends on how much work you want to do versus how much money you want. The smaller the lot, the more potential incremental money. Assuming these are not complete sets, my suggestion would be smaller lots by year with a few stars in each lot.

    It would be interesting to hear the suggestions from others with more experience.

    Good luck!

    I just helped a friend with a similar job. To get the most money out of the cards we decided to;

    Pull the star cards worth over $20.00 and any commons that look like 9's and set aside for now.

    Sell the rest in lots by year.

    Take that money and have the first bunch graded and sell on ebay.

    Not the easiest or fastest way to do it. I am sure you could sell it as one huge lot if you want to just be done with it and move on.

    Good luck!

    I think Joe has given some sound advice if you want to get the most out of them.

    That actually is a really good idea. I'm not in dire straits for money, so time is not an issue. That is the route I think I'm gonna go. Thanks for the tip.
