Even with a "Authentic" grade you still probably doubled your money. Great work!

    I like both of them.

  • This is amazing. How does an artist go about doing this. I say artist because this is art, just awesome. Congrats its stunning.

Dick is in upstate NY, right? What did he charge for the work, if indeed he did it.

What do you think it's worth in this condition?
  • bobbyw8469bobbyw8469 Posts: 7,139 ✭✭✭
Authentic only in about a VG (3) condition? I am guessing $1,300-$1,500?

Man great job. Looks like a different card completely.
Were any chemicals used? What part is trimmed? looks like a square card to me.
  • mrmint23mrmint23 Posts: 2,249 ✭✭✭
Top right corner trimmed when removing from page...chemicals and airbrush were used.
  • handymanhandyman Posts: 5,384 ✭✭✭✭✭
what chemicals did you use on it. Bleach on the corners? What gets the tape off like that? Scarry how well it worked!
But the card looks amazing now. I also agree I like both cards. But that tape is ugly on the eyes.

I see there is some white on the black bar in the 2nd pic. So did you airbrush the boarders white?

I got $1,100+ for a BVG Authentic 51 at auction this year. It had no crease but there was surface scuffing that was recolored. I'd say 1k but some collectors hate creases.

The card almost looks like it has been recolored. I am sure there is a market for a "restored" card....I just have no idea what/how much they would be willing to pay. Now, if only you can find that Topps Mantle rookie that some kid painted the background some pastel blue and get all that crap off. That would be something!

I wonder if Rick on American Restoration could restore something like this?

Rick could do a good job but his son scares me.
  • Look at my Card on my avatar. I have been debating a potential restoration project with it. It has pastel paint on the background. However, dead centered (which you never see), full untrimmed borders, no creases, and clean back. I am just scared to try to have it done. It would be a huge gamble on a 1952 Topps Mantle.
