"Anyone see this guy on CNN going through a cute blonde with the coin
collection? They were books of silver dollars which he said melted for more
than $40 and many are worth more. Then this guy told her that some were toned
and in her spare time she should CLEAN them!!!! I kid you not. The guy was
from that TV program Gallery 63 out of Georgia. I got so piffed off I called
them and told them how WRONG they were to tell people to clean coins and to
check with any dealer or association like ANA, PCGS or NGC to verify it.
If you want ot have fun their number is 404-252-2555! They said I was the
first person to say anything about cleaning coins.

She got mad , jumped up out of the chair, grabbed her coins and said, " I cleaned them for you because you were so nice on the phone". Then she stormed out of the shop.
I wanted to take up drinkin', but I just stood there thinkin'. "what did i do
The extra time she took to clean the coins was about the time I was thinkin' "What's taking her so long ? " It's not easy caring, but someone has to do it. This is a "coinundrum".

<< <i>That's terrible using a platform in the media to further perpetrate the ignorance.
I purchased some coins that are full of green gooey stuff. They feel yucky. These, for years, were held inside soft flips. Will petroleum distillates remove this substance without putting the coin in harm's way ? What should a person do ? >>

<< <i>these five coins would probably be valued at $3,000. but they've been cleaned. As they are, they're only worth about a $100-$200. >>
True enough, but that doesn't like a very good opener when you are trying to close deal. You've immediately disappointed the client. I'm all for veracity, but the coin dealer is entitled to be a salesman as much as anyone else.

<< <i>Knowing that she probably didn't know anything about coin collecting, you should have told her not to clean the coins when you had her on the phone. >>
