Starting a local coin club

As most coin collectors dont really advertise it, what would be the best way to start a coin club and get news out?

Put out flyers at local (or not so local) coin shops and coin shows; put a notice in the newsletters of any nearby (or not so nearby) coin clubs; post about the new club here, ATS and on any other coin boards you can think of.
Prepare to be the only one at the first few meetings.
edited to add: Don't forget to offer a door prize (or raffle prize) - something that people will want, perhaps a circulated $5 silver certificate or a silver 1964 Kennedy. (People, especially coin collectors, like free stuff.) After a while, you can upgrade the door prize and charge $1 a ticket or something like that.
Check out the Southern Gold Society
Also, you might attract some Asheville area members who dont mind the drive

Some groups (mostly non-coin kind of clubs and groups) use meetup.com to advertise. It cost $12 to $15 a month to do that. Advertising to the general public also can be a security concern.
Starting from the ground floor is going to be tough. Try and get at least a couple of other people to be founding members. If a curious person shows up and sees one other person, they aren't likely to stick, unless they are the founder type also, and only maybe 5% of coin collectors are in that group.
I just posted the news ATS as one of you recommended. You can search my thread by "gold coast"
I hope I won't be the only one there!
