Question about a pattern coin

I have a customer than owns a J - 1830
This appears to be VERY rare!
Now the big question is value?
NO auction records
NO price guide
In plastic from ATS. Cleaned and with some damage.
I don,t have the cert number with me but will add that later , because there is a photo on line!

proof and on the holder is the J-1830
The pricing numbers in the book, and you need to take these with a grain of salt as they're based on the 1991 sale - $8500 for PR60, $28,000 for PR65.
LindeDad has provided some good advice for selling it.
Your is correct

The only one graded by NGC is the same pattern which was previously graded by NGC and was later graded by PCGS in the same grade in the 1990's. It is believed to be the same pattern auctioned by RARCOA as a PR64 in 1991 and was acquired by Jay Parrino, The Mint in the mid 1990's. It was sold to the undersigned in 1997 and has stayed in the same collection since.
It was green stickered at a later date.
It is indeed incredibly/prohibitively rare.
I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

Your clients's 1874 aluminum proof pattern could also be sought by proof $10 gold collectors who cannot afford the gold version as they are probitively expensive. I call this pattern a poor man's proof $10 Liberty eagle and will be getting an even rarer version in the bargain.
As Julian states, patience is the key. You or your client do not have to apologize for owning this pattern. The ultimate definition of rarity.
Also mine is not for sale for at least 8 more years.
For those that need to look at it
Is the one ATS as fuzzy as Oreville's?

Very cool give away
<< <i>It's mis-attributed on the holder then. It's really a J-1380. Checked the book and last one traded was 8/1991. It's R8, very very rare. Only 2-3 minted. Sweet find!!

Pattern books are good for a picture & estimated survival. However I find the pricing structure to be irrelevant. Many will agree I am sure.
<< <i>I will have it at the PAN show starting tomorrow.

I wish I could make it. I love finding patterns on the bourse floor... Except at the national shows this seems to be a rare treat!
