OK guys, break my heart....Are these autos legit? Elway Moon Pippen Eric Davis LT

I purchased these fairly cheap, so I took a chance. Let me know your opinions and if you would like better scans. Planned on sending to PSA/DNA. Also, has anyone ever used PSA's "Quick Opinion"??? Thanks much!!!!

The pippen is 100% fake, don't waste your money.
  • They look like they were all signed by the same person with the same pen.

    Thanks JS, appreciate the help.

Speck- Three of them were from an on-line autograph website and the other two are from separate eBay auctions and sellers.

I hadn't really dived into raw autos until a few months ago and have learned a lot from this board since then. When people say that 80% of autos on-line are fake, I'm starting to believe that!

Here's a real Eric Davis to compare. I got this one in person. I'm not so sure about yours!

The biggest thing that concerned me with the Eric Davis was the size of the auto. I actually have a slabbed RC auto of his and it is fairly small in overall size. It looks like most of his other autos are small as well. One more lesson learned, I guess.

I collect Pro Vision autos specifically and not many are slabbed currently. I've bought two Pro Vision autos raw on eBay (Doc Gooden and Barry Bonds) and they were slabbed by PSA/DNA recently. Either way, from this point on, I will consult the board when I find raw ones for sale image It doesn't look like I've got many (if any) chances with this batch.

Is the quick opinion service still available on ebay auctions? For a while PSA/DNA would give an opinion for a fee on an ebay auction

And the same size auto as well. The only one that looks distinct is Lawrence Taylor, which looks more dainty in comparison. But they all seem to have a similar height and width and angle, as well as sharpie "handling" (according to my unprofessional guess).

I'll "give it away" and tell you that the Moon, Elway and Pippen are all from the same seller which was an on-line sports autograph site. I didn't do enough diligence prior to the purchase and later found they explicitly don't guarantee 3rd Party grading and only have a 14 day Money Back Guarantee. The Davis and LT were separate eBay auctions.

Once I got the LT card in hand, I noticed the first letter had a "double line" .......like they stopped too early and tried to extend the letter afterward.

So, I'm getting the consensus that none of these are worth submitting to PSA/DNA???

This is not directed at the OP but I can't understand why anybody buys autographs. The odds of them being fake are at least 80% and probably higher. Plus, even if it's real so what!? You have the autograph of some guy. I just don't understand it. Pictures of men on cardboard makes a little sense but autographs makes no sense to me. The only autograph I want is where I meet the person in person and even then I would rather have a photo with them than an auto.
  • To each their own for cards, autographs, memorabilia, etc.

In regards to buying autographs, not everyone has the opportunity/time/geographical area to get autographs. The next best thing is buying them if it's something they like. Back in the day, I did a few TTMs for that reason and am fortunate to be in an area where I can get them IP instead.

Hey *larry*, I guess I can only speak for myself on this. For me, it's the "having something personal" from a player and "holy crap they ACTUALLY held this card" cliche' thing. I think most people have a desire to get up close to famous people in some way. Autographs are something that satisfies that for me. I've never met a big league player before and don't have many opportunities to do so. My most treasured collecting moment is sending a TTM request to Will Clark and receiving it with a personalized greeting and his auto. I literally jumped around the house screaming..............ridiculous to some, total excitement to me.

I completely agree with you that raw autos are largely forged, even TTM's. I'm finding that out and educating myself so I don't waste TOO much time and money. I would also rather meet a player AND get his auto, but it likely ain't gonna happen for me at this point. As *byron* said, "to each his own". I don't really understand all the 1/100 or even 1/1 autos going for hundreds or thousands. Generally speaking, an auto is an auto to me, but some love that stuff.
