I've been lurking for a couple of weeks and decided it was time for an introduction.
I've retired so I have a little "extra" time on my hands so my younger son has piqued my interest in baseball cards again. I am concentrating on 1961 Topps and am having a great time in search of nice cards. Years ago I thought was nice card was one with sharp corners but now I'm learning that centering and no twist is important.
Thanks to all for the education!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
<< <i>Welcome Bruce. How far along are you with the '61 set? Are you doing it graded or raw? >>
I started a few weeks ago buying raw commons, thinking if I got some that were in really great condition I'd have them graded. Well, I then moved up to some PSA 8's and recently even some 9's. I was amazed at the prices for some 9's (and competition on eBay)!! I did manage to snag about five 9's, commons of course.
I'm hesitant to by some stars in lower grade, thinking I should wait and buy nicer cards. I'll probably do that.
I don't have a scanner, only a digital camera. I really like the scans I'm seeing of cards but am not sure of what scanner to buy. I need some help here. Flat bed scanner foremost, right? A few days ago I went to Kim Komando's website and recommended a scanner using charged couple device (CCD), not contact image sensor (CIS). Her reason was that when an object is scanned in a holder the subject isn't close enough to the bed for a sharp image.
Any ideas or scanner recommendations?
Thanks all!

This topic comes up from time to time...and the CCD scanner is definitely the way to go. I use an Epson Perfection V300 scanner, and I think it does a great job.
Collecting: Topps 1952-79, Bowman 1952-55, OPC 1965-71, and Pre-War White Sox cards
I agree on the Epson scanner, works great!

I am enjoying retirement. This spring and summer I was busy growing tomatoes but it looks like I'll have some free time for awhile.
Btw, I've turned on pm's.
