What are the benefits of becoming a member of the Barber society?

I am just curious if any member here is a member and does the fact I live in Canada limit a lot my involvement?

For me the main benefit of such membership is the Journal (and any ancillary publications), which usually feature interesting articles and ads from specialist dealers.
Most of the specialized clubs (other than EAC and C4, of course) don't have annual conventions, so not living in, or traveling to, the US isn't usually a disadvantage.
Check out the Southern Gold Society
Thanks that information made my mind up I will join.

Cool! Let us know when you affix a postage stamp to the envelope.
Got to pick up the forms at my brother's house tomorrow morning because he has a printer and then I will ship it out ASAP on the way home...the envelope is all done just need to have Canada post add the proper postage for the U.S.
<< <i>While I'm not a member of the Barber Society, I am a member of similar specialized clubs.

While true, most specialty coin clubs have meetings at the ANA and sometimes at other large shows. Whether those trips will be longer or more expensive for a Canadian vs. an American, will vary. For those that aren't members, meetings are usually open to non-members, often with a good presentation.
Also, the BCCS has a web site with lots of information. www.BarberCoins.org

It's not having what you want, it's wanting what you've got.
Thanks they are verifying if the cost is more since I live elsewhere than the U.S.
<< <i>Discount on haircuts? >>
I'm still laughing at this two days later. MJ
Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......

I look forward to the quarterly journals and read them cover to cover.
Glad to see you are already convinced to join.
I see DrPete at national shows regularly, and in addition to all the stuff he said about the society, I can vouch for the fact that he is well-coiffed.
Thanks just waiting on a answer on the cost for a member living in Canada...it may be the same they have to verify with the post office 1st then they will let me know.
I am sure you can send a check in US funds.
Many of my Canadian clients have listed their
checks as written..." Thirty Dollars & no/cents in US funds"
Your bank will convert the amount and debit your account accordingly.
I also have been a member for years and highly advise
your joining. There are meetings held at almost all regional
larger shows as well as all National Shows, ie: ANA / FUN.
See you at FUN, eh ?

Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
New Barber Purchases
True story from the Dallas ANA. I had an elderly gentlemen approach me in Dallas that was referred to me by another dealer on the bourse with a Barber question. He has an 1896 quarter with the reverse so smooth you can't make out whether there is a mintmark or not and has been wondering for years if it might be an 1896-S. As I recall when I asked him the coin was acquired many years ago in Southern California so!!
While I knew an answer that might help him in regards to the reeding, if there was enough on the coin (he hadn't brought it with him) to tell, I knew I could go to the BCCS web site and show him an answer, so I pulled up the link and showed him on my laptop. The look on his face as it lit up when he saw an answer he had wondered about for years was priceless.
1896-S information Link on the Barbercoins.org website
He was very thankful and I have to say the 5 minutes we spent together and answering a question he had pondered for many years gave me a big smile the rest of the day. The BCCS is an excellent resource, and its moments like this which make numismatics such a fun and fascinating hobby for me.
