VINTAGE CARDS WITH TILTS!!!!!

Why would anybody buy a high grade vintage with this problem this defect in my opinion is far worse then haveing a crease or a soft corner. unless the card is l something extremly rare. my advise anybody thinking of a high grade vintage purchase check the centering for tilts. This defect in my opinion makes a card very hard to resell and it is just so hard on the eyes .

I'd agree that tilts are distracting visually, but there are many collectors out there not as bothered by it and will bid accordingly for the grade regardless.

  • grote15. those people that are buying these tilted cards are wasting there money and dont even know it. buying the holder and not the card. If i had a grading company any card with tilts are would never grade higher then a 6 and if its a bad tilt its going to grade a 4 or 5 and i dont care how perfect the rest of the card is.

That's your opinion, but as I said, not all collectors feel that way.

cardcollector2000....you are wrong. Tilts arent a problem at all and have little to no effect on a vintage cards value. Lack of creasing is the most important thing, followed by sharp corners. Centering and Registration are next and last comes tilt. These are not my opninions but facts and I know this because I have collected for a long time, have many valuable cards.

OK...so here is one with a tilt. How do you guys feel about it...maybe a little is fine? This card is extremely difficult to find centered.

  • The longer I collect, the more tilted cards bug the crap out of me. I have found that it's pretty much impossible to avoid tilts completely when putting vintage sets together, but I have done a pretty good job of minimizing them in my collection over the last couple of years.

The Snider example that Jeff posted above represents the absolute limit of tilt that I might be able to live with for a high-dollar card in my collection.... IF it is a super nice card in all other aspects (which that card appears to be). But even a tiny bit more tilt than that, and I'd have to sell it regardless of how nice it was otherwise.

I sold a '67 Clemente PSA 8 earlier this year that was clean and centered very well- except I decided I just couldn't tolerate the tilt. I still have not found a replacement.

Tilts do bother me , but with low pop 9's for my 66 Topps set , sometimes its par for the coarse . I look at some of them and think " Wow someone is kidding someone ".

I'm anti bad tilts the way I'm...

    anti bad corners,
    anti bad edges,
    anti bad centering
    anti bad surface/registration

Try finding a 1969 Seaver that doesn't have a tilt. I've seen two or three in the past 25 years.

So we have Joey back again under two alias of cardcollector2000 and deaddead it looks like. Where the hell are the MODs? Can we get another round of ALT ID bannings please.

Hey Joey I hope your sales of comics on eBay are going well. As well as they can go with me getting you banned and blacklist throughout the Comic Book Community.

Was a lot of talk about you at the NYCC this past weekend. Some of the bigger dealers in the industry are making sure to avoid you at all costs.

Tilts and off centered cards were always cards that I stayed away from. I would much rather have a card with a soft corner or two that is well centered, but thats just me.
  • pulled this from a Heritage box today. It was a box topper buy back. I have yet to see a nice 63 from these buy backs

Then start your own grading company.

While I agree tilts are not attractive and I try to avoid them
when buying, what's worse to me is out of focus cards. You see many
of them residing in 8 and 9 holders all the time. Why would anyone
buy a card that's a double vision card and pay top dollar for it?
To me, that's wasting money and if I had a grading company any card
with focus issues would never grade higher than 6.

I think I should start my own grading company....... then again these are
just pictures of men so who really cares.

If you buy for eye appeal, then centering with a "Tilt" is very important...
